My jeep got broke into and someone stole the doors is the main thing

i got a quote from a jeep dealership
insurance said it would be a total loss

then they want me to get a second quote after i got them the pictures and first quote from a dealer ship

do i have to get another quote? it didnt seem like they were forcing me

So wait, your jeep got total lossed for stolen doors?

What are you expecting them to do? Do you have full coverage insurance.

Let the ins co total it. You buy it back, take the extra money and get some junkyard doors and then lift/locker/bigger tires.

This is waht the insurance co. is trying to avoid...of course they are looking out for their best intrest, they know the srtealership is the moist expensive place to get parts. That is why they want the OP to get a quote for a used set. I'm surprised the insurance co. didnt have a local body shop that handles their claims, so they can lowball you with junkyard parts.
Do you "have" to get another quote?...that depends on how much of a dick you want to be. They've already started, its up to you to roll over and do as they say or fight back and demand factroy new parts. There is a lot of flex in what the insurance adjuster can give you...but keep in mind its not the adjuster's job to keep you happy, he gets paid to see that you get as little as possible.

My '90 Grand Wagoneer got hit by an entertainment center that fell off an oncoming truck, that was in 2000. I had gotten it repainted not long before, and it looked pretty darn good. The insurance adjuster was being difficult on several points...front bumper was tweaked but he didn't want to replace it, hood had a slight ripple that he only offered $50 comp for (to leave as is), etc.

The worst damage was the front DS fender and grill. no problem getting that approved, but it was some little things that also had to be taken care of to make everything whole. He wasn't wanting to go with the small stuff, even though it was damaged in the accident.

He started to sing a different tune when I pointed out that I saw this as a collector/classic, evidenced by the fact that I had just had it repainted, headliner, etc (and a new motor not long before). I then pointed out that on the factory woodgrain, the grain pattern is continuous from one panel to the next...he had me get a quote on replacing ALL the woodgrain ($3.2k just in vinyl, plus gobs of hours removing the old trim and woodgrain and putting it back). He gave me a couple hundred "comp" to live with mismatched vinyl on a junkyard fender (not a big deal at all, but it was a bargaining chip), and pretty much let me name what I wanted fixed on the hood, bumper, etc. I had him over a barrel, and he knew it.

Moral of the story...give in on the doors with junkyard parts, but use that savings for them as a bargaining chip to be sure EVERYTHING on the dash damage is taken care of the way you want. (I am NOT saying try and fix stuff that wasn't damage during the theft process).

Funny part to the story...don't know why they didn't total it (I made them an offer for them totaling it and me keeping it, he could have written a check that day and walked off). Book was about 3.5k, damages paid were 2800. BUT...they put me in a rental Suburban (closest comparable vehicle available) for almost 2 months while their parts guy tried to locate a junkyard fender, they ended up paying over $3k just for the rental. And I quickly got tired of the Suburban, and ended up driving to Marsh and buying my own fender and taking it to the body shop (reimbursed by the ins. co.).

It's a Jeep thing, you should understand :)

Lol never had my doors stolen, think this is a wrangler problem, cherokee doors take longer to remove and are pretty damn heavy, not worth the effort when you can buy one used for nothing.

If thats how insurance companies are with jeeps though... maybe its time I buy a few TJ's for cheap and put full coverage on them, then leave them in the hood with the windows down

You are paying insurance so that they repair your vehicle to the condition it was before the damage, that does not mean all NEW parts. Heck when I worked in body shop anything more then 6 months old they would try and get used doors for it. I don't get why you think its not in your best interest to get another quote unless you want them to total it. Your insurance on a 1997 vehicle is cheaper partly because your doors are 13yrs old lol. There won't be anything wrong with junkyard doors if you went that route. I am surprised they haven't had you bring it to one of their recommended shops also. Check out car-part.com to see what used junkyard doors go for it still may be totaled. Good luck which ever way you want to go.

Something I find a little funny, initially I was interested, figured they are going to total loss his TJ, hell get paid, he can buy it back, and I will buy it from him for whatever he paid + cover the quote and a little extra coin. Figured hey, its worth a shot.
He says "If I sell, Ill sell it for the quote, which is 4800"
I said "No Thanks, a stock salvage tj isn't worth that"
He replies and I quote Ha typical NC4x4 forum response

Don't try to get every dollar you can from insurance. That just makes the cost higher for all of us. If junkyard doors fix it for a few hundred then let that be the solution.

I agree something fishy here.

its not fishy

you tell me youll buy it for the quote

i tell you the quote and you act like its high

Lol no, I said "Buy it back from your insurance, and I will cover the cost of another quote if you sell it to me for a good price"

You just didn't understand that somehow.

BTW, pretty sure the quotes your having done, are of the damage, not the vehicles value...

I never get the people who refuse anything but new parts on their car. While it would be nice, it's not like your car is new to begin with. It's not like they are going to go to the junkyard and just bolt them on the car, they will work them over so they look brand new. The point of insurance is to get it back to where it was, and used doors or fenders or whatever get that job done at a cheaper price, and keeps insurance lower for the rest of us.

in NC.. insurance companies are NOT required by law to quote factory OEM parts..i found this out the hard way when my mustang got rearended. but if you total it out for real they will quote the highest priced parts they can find on your "already defected hood, door, etc". that was messed up BEFORE you wrecked.
