The family and I decided since I had a Saturday off for the first time in several months we would go to the mountains. Now anyone familar with the NC mountains will know were BLowing Rock is at. That is were we headed. We stopped downtown and visted the shops and the local park in the center of town. After this we left out and the kids wanted to stop at Mystery hill which was kind of cool for the kids anyway. We also caught a tour of the Native American Muesem right beside Mystery Hill. Now it was time ti hit the Blue Ridge Parkway. Beautiful mountain fall viewing, lots of traffic and the Moses Cone Manor house. The Moses Cone Manor is on 3600 acres of protected Mountain land that use to be owned my the Cone family. The main house has be turned into a mountain craft center and is pretty cool. I f want to buy any of these ceafts you better be rich though.

Anyway you see the tone of the day nice slow relaxing everyone having a good time until we headed home. Some asshat behind me was so drunk he could not even set up in the seat of his car. He almost hit us several times and then crossed the center line almost killing himself and the on coming car. At a red light someone got out of their car and cussed him out then went and got back in their car and drove off. All of this hapened while I was on the phone with the Blowing Rock Police department. Listening to the lady say we will try to get there but traffic is really bad today so all we can do is try. Then the man turned off of HWY 321 onto Sunset Road in Blowing Rock and the when I told the lady this on the phone she started laghoing at me. She "Do not worry sir we will definately get now that road come out right in front of our police station." So my curiosity got the better of me and I hung a right and went back threw downtown turning on Sunset from the oppisite direction and sure enough their sat the drunk dude with two Blowing Rock Officers testing his abilities. He was a young guy probably in College Appalachian State University is in that area so I imagine he was a student there. They also had a ball game Saturday.

Thanks to the Blowing Rock Police for the fast effective reaction to my complaint is all I can say. They may have saved a life because downtown he would have killed somebody. Narrow streets cars parked in the road on both sides and 100's of people walking around.

Anyway that was my excitement for the weekend.

Hope this guy is not on this board but if you are then I am not sorry for what I did. I would do it again if it happened again. I f you are a member of this board you were not being very smart at all. The only reason I added this statement is because he was in a Jeep Liberty not a real hard core 4x4 but you never know.

Good. I almost lost my wife and daughter to a drunk about 6 years ago. I'd love to see some serious punishment for drunk drivers instead of the hand slap we currently give offenders.

Glad he got nabbed, unlike the tractor/trailer we followed on the way home from Florida.. I think he was falling asleep, not drunk, but just as bad.. going across 3 lanes, whether or not there were cars/trucks next to him.. speed way up, slow way down, erratic as hell. I called the FHP and 20(!) miles later a trooper got in behind him..

We watched as he veered halfway onto the shoulder, then halfway into the next lane over, and the damn trooper didn't pull him over.

After dealing with the Florida drivers again, I was glad to be back home... At least here they are predictably bad...

What an asshole.

Sorry you had such a bad experience with a possible ASU student.

We arent all drunk morons.

oh so because you were near App state, it must have been a drunk app student on game day. FUCK YOU YOU LITTLE BITCH

You need to calm down, you know the sad fact is most DWI is college students, but that is not saying they are all drunks. He was just making an observation so CHILL!!

damn son...settle the fuck down metto.

but krehel, where are you getting this from? your statement is ridiculous. roughly 1.4 million people go to college each year...so assuming it is a four year college that is a rough figure of 5.6 million...add another million for other colleges. hell add 4 million kids, i dont care...no way in hell do 10 million citizens account for most of DWIs especially when probably not even a million of those students get a DWI...so dont go saying it is a sad fact, it isnt a fact at all.

You may have meant college aged people, but you are also wrong. Median age is around 30 and 60% of DWIs are committed by those 25-32...slightly above college age.

Easy slugger. Crap like that just furthers the sterotype of us students. You know that more then likely it was someone who goes to school at app. Most people who go to the game are 1)trashed
2) Drive home afterwards.

But anyways, how's Mystery Hill? I've heard stories but never been.

ASU Blows??!!

What do you guys have against App?? I seem to remember it as a very enlightening experience. I spent two years there and then transferred to NC State. I will never regret the time that I could call myself a Mountaineer. The college itself is tremendous and the atmosphere is touched by none other. I can remember working at a local gas station, enjoying the locals that frequented there for coffee and gas.
Most of you won't know them but I was fortunate enough to meet old man Green of "The Green's". It was this old mountain man that introduced me to some of the most awesome music of the south, old time southern gospel. While I was there, I also met some very prominent names in the music industry. I was fortunate enough to play a concert with Doc Severinsen, band leader for the late Johnny Carson. I learned about making Steel Pans from world renowned Ellie Mannette.
I guess that it really depends on what focus your education is going to be on, but for me... I don't have enough positive things to say about Appalachian State University. It was one of the highlights of my life to this point.

I made my conclusion from.

1) He was a young guy maybe 20 years old.

2) The university is not far away

3) They had a game that day also

College students + football = parties and drinking.
Not for all students no but for a lot of them yes that is what it means.

Why are you so mad was it you?
Was it a friend of yours?

If it was then you or your friend if this is the case got what was deserved.

Now to the FUCK YOU LITTLE BITCH comment.

You know what I am not going to comment on that because if I do I will probably be banned from the board. Metto have a nice day buddy.

Mystery Hill is alright my kids enjoyed it. It was my first time ever stopping in there. Not a place to take a date but OK if you are bored and need to kill some time.

I have onemore thing to say before stop replyiong to anyone else on this thread.

You Metto were not the one driving driving home with some stupid drunk behind you. You were not the one watching some asshat take his life and everyone elses life on highway 321's life in his own drunk hands. You were not the one watching this and thinking about your three kids and wife in car with you who would also be caught up in a accident if nothing was done. Am I sorry for calling the police no. Will I apologize for saying he looked to be college age and I know there was a game at ASU Saturday NO. Would I do this again if given the chance YES. No one and I mean no one puts my family's life in danger ever. I will rip a mans head off for putting my wife and kids in danger. So if this was you or one of your buddies then I hope you or they enjoyed their stay in the tank.

This little aside is off of the topic of the post, but I just can't resist chiming in, so please forgive me.
You clerly are not familiar w/ App State or Boone. That's okay, no prob, you'd kinda have to be/been a student to know.

Game day or no-game day, it's pretty irrelevant at App. Football is not a big deal there at all. They can barely get the stands filled. It's not like State, UNC, or (hack hack) Wake etc. Most students just don't care that much. As mentioned above, even those that do, would not be in Blowing Rock or away from campus/home.
And BTW in general, alcohol is not really the drug of choice among ths students anyway.

But, again, all this is irrelevant to the point anyhow. Good for you for reporting him.
And, glad you enjoyed the area. I encourage anybody to visit there. Great place. Wife and I really hated having to leave. Unfortunately other needs took priority.

Metto - chill the fuck out. College kids have a bad rep. Not always undeserved. You get to enjoy this for the next 4+ years. Deal with it.

no matter what school it would have been near is gonna get blammed no matter if it was a student, teacher, or random person

p.s. DRUNK DRIVIN = F----N STUPID

To clarify I was headed back into Blowing Rock from Boone where the school is located it took until Blowing Rock for the 911 lady to figure out where Highway 321 was at. He followed me from Boone all the way back to Blowing Rock. In the two lane sections I could not slow down enough for him to pass me. I did not include all the details before because honestly I did not think they mattered. The point is there was drunk driver a young guy and he got arrested and taken off the streets for at least one day. The other point is druynk driving is stupid and before I am asked yes when Iyounger I did it once or twice. I was stupid for doing it and never drink and drive now that I am older and understand more about life.

No need to justify yourself. You did the right thing. If I had kids and they were with me I probably would have gone into a rage and taken the law into my own hands knowing this idiot had no respect for the lives of anyone else. Good for you for doing the right thing.

The only thing I will add. is if I was being tail gated by a drunk driver, with my family in the car. I would have pulled off the road.

Yes I know the area
Yes I know there arent many spots, but if you made it from Blowing rock to Boone, I can think fo at least 3 spots to get completely off the road.

Anyway good for the drunk.
Good for you.

God blesses all that were near you that they weren't taken out.

Uh, App football is a very big deal now. we fill the stands every game now. We won the national championship last year and we consistantally have around 20,000 people attending. http://www.goasu.com/article/5367/ <---Those figures are from last year before we won the title. Its a bigger deal now. Not trying to justify drunk driving or anything. Just thought I'd throw that out there

Well color me stupid, then.

when I was there, the only thing the football players were respected for was their ability to provide cushy jobs to the guys in Tutoring Services....

:shaking: I say it is a sad fact because most of the people we arrest for DWI are College students. I really don’t care what kind of statistics you may have found, I am just telling you what I see every day.

hah well no offense meant...but it is kind of arrogant to say you do not care about statistics and keep believing that your outlier county is representative and worthy of translating into a fact. All I was doing was letting you know that what you think is fact, is actually not the case...good to know you just dont care.
And FYI...the statistics were from the US census and the National Opinion Research Center...two sources that I know are reliable because I have used them in a Political Statistics class.

I am just telling you what I see, you asked me were I got my info from and I am telling you. trust me I care, just not for your perception of the world through your computer, I have to deal with this crap every day not just for a "Political class".
