So yesterday it rained at my house, last night it got below freezing, a rational person would assume that my second story shaded deck may be slippery this morning. Well this guy right here had not had any coffee yet and it was dark and I go to walk out on the deck (barefoot, yes I know...) and I slipped and probably very comically fell on the deck. In doing so I hit my head, scraped up my leg, but most painfully I pulled my hamstring something fierce.

My hamstring hurts to touch, like it does after you catch a major cramp. It hurts to straighten, and it hurts to bend. I only get relief in about a 45 degree angle, and only when I am sitting on the edge of a chair so the hamstring is not being pushed on by the chair.

So what can I do for this? I am supposed to head to the App game tomorrow and then off to hunt in a tree stand all next week (been looking forward to this for a year). Ice? Wrap? Whiskey?

Compression/wrap...I always prefer to alternate hot/cold...ice to reduce swelling, heat to break up blood pooling. Eat stuff high in bromelain, ie pineapple. Natural anti-inflammation aid and helps the healing process. Note, this is only if it's pulled...if there's a tear you'll wanna get it checked out. Oh and hard tailgating helps you forget your problem in the first place.

RICE
Rest
Ice
Compress
Elevate

If its pulled. Pulls shouldnt be touch sensitive in my experience. They also dont hurt at both extremes. Again in my experience.

Triactin will work wonders.

Yeah I’d ice bath for awhile and see what it feels like after sleep, then dr probably!

Me thinks a doctor if it's that sensitive. I pulled hamstrings several times playing sports.....seems skipping that stretching stuff will do that. I don't recall anything being as bad as you described until I tore both my knees up.

Where on the hamstring does it hurt? Right in the middle, towards the ends, off to the side.

Assuming that it hurts towards the joint. Does the muscle ball up toward the other side. If so. Doc and surgery.

Is there a divot before where it hurts. If so. Doc and surgery.

If it is just an bad sprain/pull. Compression. NSAIDs. Ice for a day or two then heat wraps. Emerging studies shows ices does damage and slows healing

Thanks for all the replys!

I had to sit through a three hour training yesterday and I swear everyone in there must have thought I was tattooed by the anti christ because I couldn’t get comfortable in that chair and every position hurt.

I have not gone to the doctor yet, gonna give it some more time. I have completely torn the tendon in my bicep before so this is not as painful as that, so I am hoping it just a partial tear of the muscle. It is a little less tender to the touch this morning but still can’t straighten it or move past 90 degrees.

Headed to the App game today, gonna drown some of the pain in whisky, heck I may berunning wind sprints before the game

At least App crushed Georgia. Otherwise it would have been REALLY painful :D

I have been in the woods all week, and walking very lightly, and in some pain. I came back yesterday, got out of the shower and was walking past my wife and she said "oh my" (if this were the garage I would have more commentary ;) ) and she said the back of my leg was purple from a huge bruise. It is getting better, and I think it was just a muscle issue and not a tendon issue so that is good
