Anyine had theirs inspected and bought back yet? i have my inspection tomorrow to see if they will. Only reason was I talked to a guy yesterday and his son's Taco was bought back for almost double the value.

Is that for the undercut welds on the motor mounts and frame issues on the 05 and 06 Tacos?

It is a buyback on 96-00. 01-04 has the option of frame replacement or buyback. If TMS buys back the Tacoma you will be well taken care of. Just an FYI if they buy it back, take the rental car. It should be offered to you. Drive around until they finish the paperwork. Could be up to 30 days from when they tell you its rusted to when you get payment. Where you having it inspected at?

what about 4Runners?

i wasnt aware of anything for the 01-04 tacos. i was informed that the frames came from a different source so the promblem was non existent after 2000. I had mine bought back. it was a 99. mine was real bad though. i could stick my arm inside my frame as the hole was so big. they give you 1.5 times the bluebook value of excellent condition no matter what condition its in (so i was told) mine was in great shape other than the rust. You have to watch and make sure that the dealer gives you credit for options such as tow package, bedliner, running boards, allow wheels. take everything out of it before you go as they would not let me take the truck back off the lot after they had inspected it and failed it. yes do take the rental and dont let them jew you into a car unless you just want one. they told me thats all they could do and i fussed and told them i have a truck for a reason, i use it, and i ended up getting a brand new tundra to drive for over a month.

4runners are not included bc they were from japan and the tacos from cali

you are correct. from everything i've read it's 1.5 time the KBB excellent condition. pretty sweet deal!

So could a person go buy a tacoma from a small dealer, then get the yota dealer to buy it back?

in theory you could. but in my experience i needed a registration for it which means you would have to find one cheap, pay to have it registered, then take it in. all assuming that the damage is bad enough to have it bought back. if the damage is not bad enough they send you on ur way

The Tacoma has to be up to date on registration, tags, and state inspections as applicable. Plus you would have to make sure you got one that is included. VIN must start with a "4" that means was US produced. If have Tacoma with VIN starting in "J" sorry but Japanese produced and they are not included. This is for the 96-00. I believe same is true on the 01-04. Not 100% though, will have to look into that a little more. Those have just started recently. They have a crazy equation that they go by to figure what buying it for, but it pretty much equals out to 1.5 of KBB.

X2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Make sure given credit for everything on it!!!! And you want a rental truck, stand your ground. Dont just take whatever is there.
Good luck with it!!!!

bottom line i got almost 14000 for something i paid less than 10000 for 3 years prior

yea i had so stand there and sound like a jack ass to get them to give me a truck and they still said no they cant do it and i can pay for it if id like. so i gave up and next day went to pick up my rental and they had a tundra waitin on me. and i had to call and argue with several people to finally get full credit for all the accessories (which your most likely better off leaving on and getting credit than you would be for parting out)

Wonder if someone could take pancake's old rig in?
Also, what is toyota doing with all those engines?

I was told crushing them all. if its enough to write a check they want 0 liability going forward
