Tahoe tow Question

I tow my boat with the wifes Yukon and its fine.
In an emergency I have 3x pulled my K5 on my 17' trailer....I would hate to have to....it does fine engine wise, it just doesnt have the brakes or suspension.

i'v got a 00 its got 36s on it i pull any thing i what in od its got 4.11 gears 15mile to the galline

36's, 4.11's, and you get 15mpg towing? maybe going downhill with a tailwind.. hell, even empty I doubt it.

oh, and...

i was thinking the same thing on both of these you just beat me to it,i had a 99 for about 3 weeks and stk it would hardly get 18

I just recently went down the gulches for one of there competitions and I ended up riding with my buddy who was pulling a f150 on 38.5's with his tahoe. I will never ride in that tahoe again while it is pulling a rig. We came off of a bridge on 77 going from charlotte to laurens, sc and the trailer started swaying very hard and we started to lose it. But thank god we didn't...I about shit myself. The tahoe could not handle the trailor and the rig, the trailor was pushing the tahoe all over the place. It was raining pretty hard that night which probably had something to do with it but still...that was my experience with a tahoe and pulling something. We did 45 all the way down to sc.

yea that shit was fun:flipoff2:. i put the truck on the trailer correctly this time and we were running 75 the whole way home. only got 3 miles to the gallon tho. maybe because the trailer and truck weight adds up to about 4 1/2 tons and the tahoe is only a 1500 haha. well ill never pull with a chevy again, only a FORD:bronco:.

i have a 97 yukon on 22s i pull my 18 foot enclosed with three fourwheelrs in it no problem and i pull my 16 foot open trailer with a 1993 wrangler or a 753 bobcat just fine only suggestion is put on a brake controller both my trailers have electric brakes otherwise it wont be pretty if you have to stop quick

switch to firefox....it spell checks for you

Tahoe

I started out with a 99 tahoe 350 geared 373 it pulls good i have a 2000lb trailer with a 76 fj40 on it. Steep grades a little rough make sure it its out of overdrive or you will be buying a tranny (2500.00). Trailer brakes a must the brakes on the tahoe are suitable for the truck to much more heats them up quickly. I have since purchased a 2500 suburban it is much better. Dont be scared to tow with the tahoe just take your time and make sure you have a tranny cooler too.:driver:

Nope, just smart enough to know better than to believe you get 10MPG towing an 8000lb camper at 75+mph, and that you're towing 8k in overdrive with a 4L60 with a lifted vehicle and don't replace transmissions more than tires...

Nobody here buys that line, so quit puffing up your e-chest man..

Sincerely,
Rich

I have towed up to 7500 lbs with my 03 tahoe with the 5.3. It really suprises me how well it tows, but I am careful especially when it rains. The rear suspension is really not made for hauling big loads. I do think it is a little hard on the tranny even useing tow haul mode. If you are just hauling a yota on a lighter weight trailer I think you will be fine as long as you are careful. Remember it doesn't matter what your tow rig is or what you are towing, it doesn't give you a right to drive like there is nothing behind you. Drive senseibly and you will be fine. The tahoe should handle the load you want it to pull but not much more. Just my two cents.

Nope, still have the same transmission and your a dodge boy what do you know about chevy's anyway. All i've done is remove the intake, clean and polish the intake runners, clean the injectors, installed a throtlebodie spacer, K&N air filter, hypertech power programmer 3, dual flowmasters, I run full synthetic in engine trans. case and front and rear end. I take very good care of my vehicles.......and i didnt know there was such thing as a spell check, I was a mechanic/body man/painter for 30 years, not a secretary.

You're right.. :shaking:

But before you FULLY insert your foot into your mouth, I should probably let you in on a little tidbit of information... There are currently 3 vehicles I have the keys to... a Chevy 2500 8.1/Allison, a LSx 5.3/700R4 powered buggy, and a LS1/T-56 F-body, so yeah, what would I know about Chevy drivetrains? I don't have a 4L80E in the stable.

For the record, I was never a Dodge boy. I drove a Cummins, and the crate it came packaged in.

i'v got a 00

towing...in od with a 350...

(P.S. Your 5.3L engine NOT a 350, but what would I know about that? after all, I'm a Dodge boy) :flipoff2:

Based on this info, if true, your comments are totally irrelevant. The question was about a stock Tahoe.

Once we start talking about engine mods, well we get a bit away from the whole stock thing now dont we.

BTW how you like that K&N...why not just remove the filter all together I heard it flows even better.

BTW glad you were a wrench for 30 years (since you were 13) here is a:

Choco_chip_cookie.jpg

BTW profile claims 7.5 inches of lift all that towing with that tall bastid and you get 15?

HAHAHAHAHHAHA

I'm not sure whether to be more offended about you lieing to us all, or about the fact that you think we are dumb enough to believe that shit.

Ron<--- Old enough to know better than to speak his mind, too drunk to care.

some people wont leave well enough alone.
you said: "I was a mechanic/body man/painter for 30 years, not a secretary."

Your profile says you were born in 1964.
This is 2008, you are 43.
43-30 is 13.
You did not say I have been around cars since I was 12, you said had been a mechanic/body man/painter for 30 years.
I too turned wrenches as a kid, but that did not make me a mechanic.
