Welp family dog of 13 years passed at the vet last week kids, wife have been pretty down. Thinking about a golden doodle anybody have one or know where to get one in eastern nc?

We have a mini golden doodle who is 25 lbs. Great dog with a ton of personality and smarts. Only remotely negative thing I can say is you need to comb/ brush them a lot.

I don’t know why folks like these golden doodles. They are cross breeds and are really watering down each breed. They aren’t hypoallergenic like everyone thinks and they do shed, just not as bad. My sister has one and I absolutely would never get one. To each their own I guess, but the ones I’ve been around have been real pieces of work.

pick up a good lab would be my recommendation for a family dog. But, I am quite a bit biased as I’ve had 5 through the years.

We are kinda in the market for another dog and really want another golden retriever. We dont plan on breeding(the dog at least) so any kind expensive of full blooded dog wont be for us.Us personally we cant see paying big money for a dog when there's dogs at the pound that just need a chance. The main down side to a pound dog is not too many goldens come up and rarely are they pups.We have four cats so Im not sure a adult dog would work.

I cant remember if your'e in TN or not but my wife saw some pure bred golden retrievers on FB about an hour ago that were here in Greeneville, about an hour from carter county. They were $800 iirc.GR's arent the only good breed of dog but they are hard to beat.esp if you have young kids.

owning labs the past 21 years, the are hard to beat for a great dog. Our current yellow lab is turning 10 and slowing down dramatically unfortunately. We recently ( 8 months old now) picked up a Boxador ( lab/boxer) and I have to stay I am impressed with her. House trained very quick, extremely smart, loves to lay on your lap( as she is doing now), is excellent with the grandkids, listens pretty well for her ag, loves to travel and ride in the Jeep. Short hair so a LOT less shedding. Highly recommend. As for the golden doodle, not my cup of tea at all. I think they are visibly very unappealing. Probably has to do with the poodle part.

They shed like hell though. We've got one and although she is great with people I'll never own another.

Your current one (porter?) is great. He's already got the old man vibe down at an early age.

This.

Look up the quote from the guy who originally bred the “breed”.

BUT. I LOVE my dog (yellow lab). And people love their ‘oodles. Soooo at the end of the day. To each their own.
Yeah I get you a lab they are good protectors of kids to I have one and I can’t even wrestle with my wife and goof around outside without him getting protective dumb dog LOL no seriously they’re great dogs

I guess I am different. I do like the breed. I have often said, that would be my next pooch. Although it probably won't be due to cost. As faf as shedding, I have read that you will have to get ito the 2nd or 3rd generation before you get one that sheds little to none. I first fell in love with the breed at the local pawn shop. The owners have one named "Nash" well kown through out uptown Morganton and always a fixture at the pawn shop. Since meeting Nash, I have met several others and still like them. Only draw back I have seen is more trips to the beauty parlor for them.

Black Labs Matter!

anyone who knew me back in the day knows I am definitely a lab person. I was beyond devastated when Berkeley died.

Thread is definitely good timing as we are looking to get a dog soon, and obviously my choice is a black lab. Wife wants a labor doodle due to the shedding,

This. Strict focus on the defect or deviation and how it's going to be rectified.

Sorry about your loss.
Can't talk you out of one. I've had everything from rottweilers to pomeranians. We got a golden doodle 2 years ago and she's the best dog I've ever had. Our male and female are both F1B. This means they are 75/25 poodle to golden. Also means they shed very little unlike the half and half golden doodles.Their great with anyone any age but will still let us know if someone arrives. Smarts from the poodle and sweet from the golden. Only negative is these type golden doodles need clipped every 3 months to keep from mating of fur. Regular 50/50 doodles usually don't need grooming that often but tend to shed a good bit leading to people upset that their doodle sheds.
Oh yeah, I am placing two pups this morning and have 2 boys and two girls still available. Pups are called F1B muti generation or F3. They are a good bit harder to find because they are from 2-75/25 parents. If interested just pm me and I'll send you a link and pics. Here's our girl and her hubby.

There are several dog breeds i would love to have. Always wanted a border collie. That being said, i could never buy a dog. There are too many that need homes that are in rescues and shelters. I've loved all 5 we have had since the wife and I got together in college.

You do you. I’ve got a 14 year old lab and a 4 month older golden retriever.

I wouldn’t pay for a golden doodle because it isn’t a recognized breed. Meaning i can literally sell you any pound pup call it a golden doodle and there is no recourse for you when I lie .
M friend of my wife is selling golden doodle pups currently. Because her poodle escaped and got knocked up by unknown ...

I agree to a point. There are those who will cheat others and sleep like a baby in most any transaction. It's a good idea to purchase any claimed breed from someone with both parents and references. As far as cost doodles are pretty desirable now and bring a premium price. Then again look at the cost of quality golden's or labs....Friend just bought a 2k lab. Another bought a $2500 german pointer. Too each his own

Shelter pups, Pits, and labs, nothing wrong with looking that direction at all. The biggest draw for me and a labradoodle, is the shedding. I know there will be some for sure, Hell, I shed LOL. But it's really a daily chore that I fail at to keep the hair up in my home. I have a pit(mix, not sure) and a 12 yr old lab, black lab. Both shed, but the lab even more so. it's year round due to him mostly being an inside dog(floor obstacle) He's an awesome dog with a very loving demeanor. But, when the time comes, I do want a Labradoodle. As far as buying vs recuses, The prettiest one and the biggest I have seen was waiting with me at the vets office a couple years ago, and in talking with his owner, he got it at the rescue in Morganton, Burke County Friends for Animals. So, it's possible. The smarts of both breeds, the demeanor of both breeds, is my draw. My dad had two poodles, spanning a total of 35 years, and I have had many labs in my life time. So yeah, I do have a liking of both breeds. Maybe, Maybe not, chances are I will have another rescue, seeing as how the last 5 dogs I have had have been rescues.

Me, I just dislike Poodle anything. I'm not a curly hair fro' guy. Even chicks.
I prefer pure breed anything just like my vehicles. No LS Ford's and such.

But to go entirely against what I just said both our current dogs are mut rescues. One rescue is excellent. The other dog is a long haired shedding, needy, barking, whinny, fart machine.

I want buy another dog til one of these expire. Yes, that's a callous word choice. It reflects my also not popular view point on pets in general. I don't abuse them, but they ain't family. They are amusement and tools. That's why I am attracted to working breeds. The "tool" they serve me in a capacity is watching the property and being alarms. If it doesn't bark or at least make guest hessitate I don't need them.

Lap dogs and cuddles are useless. I have a human partner for that.

I'm pretty biased, but it's tough to beat a lab. My old guy has been with me since college and tolerates my boys admirably. They worry him to death, especially the youngest, and when he's had enough he just gets up and lumbers across the yard out of their reach. He is getting some years on him and it will be some sad singing I and slow walking around here when he goes.

They're a fad bordering on a scam. Actual breeds were established over dozens of generations of selective breeding for specific characteristics. You can't take unremarkable examples from two breeds and get puppies who exhibit the best characteristics of the best examples of those breeds. It's bullshit.
