I did not comment on the seeping rear differential cover originally. I apologize. The cover that was supplied to us with the used parts for the rear was a very well used SOLID cover. The flange surface was damaged and had a bunch of nicks and dings in it. We sealed it up with RTV like normal after cleaning up the damaged areas. We never put gear oil in it or installed the axle, the customer did that. That Friday afternoon that the customer came by for the front axle,he told us the cover was leaking. I took a look at it and it was seeping from the lowest point. We said we would fix it if he wanted but offered the idea that if he wanted to keep an eye on the level and complete the 500 miles gear break in (this was almost a month from the time he picked up the rear axle originally, not sure when he actually installed it) we would then change the gear oil, check everything, and reseal the cover with new gear oil for no charge. The customer said he did not have time for us to reseal it at that time anyway so we assumed he would call to make an appointment for us to reseal it once he had completely the break in period.
Again, we apologize for the upset customer in this situation and how he feels about the shop. We are not perfect, nobody is, but we have been faithfully servicing the NC 4x4 community since 1989. We hope hearing the facts about the situation gives a bit more clear of a picture of the actual events that transpired.
