Tell me about your wood

We had the "builder grade" engineered oak and our 85lb lab/Golden tore them up. Actually it was the grain that came up. It was softer than the rest so it was not just straight line scratches from his nails but followed the grain.

We now have bamboo (grass) from lumber liquidators. 45lb Boxer hasn't made a mark on them.
Stranded bamboo is the only floor I have ever seen with stand large dog traffic. I have seen oak, cherry and even hickory take significant wear from large dog traffic. Stranded bamboo is the only thing I have ever laid that will stand up to it...

I'm going to install some install some engineered floor over slab in basement. Since everyone is comparing and spreading wood knowledge. Any tips on glue down install? Or things to stay away from?
Also I plan to buy from this place ReallyCheapFloors | America's Cheapest Hardwood Flooring
They seem to have a good selection and are localish. Also have some end run and small quantity sell offs at reduced prices.

Great info! I will. Would the sealer be good to go under the carpet in the bedrooms as well? House is a 1978 model. I'm digging into the bathroom floor for shower and found a thin vapor barrier under the concrete. So that's good.

You can use it to seal wood or concrete. 2 coats for concrete and 1 coat for wood. If your going to glue over it, glue within 72 hrs because it's also an etching conform compound.

@GotWood you want a small job in zip 29742?
Pays cash. Maybe 500 sqft?
No tear out. You walk into clean concrete floor.

My wife and I don't like the narrow planks either, so we went with 4" sand and finish when our house was built 5 yrs ago. Just last year my son moved upstairs, so we had hardwoods installed in his old bedroom downstairs to make it an office. We hired the same company to use the same wood with the same finish. It matches perfectly. That is one huge benefit of sand and finish vs pre-finished.

This is some my dad did in my parents house (my house now). Maple with walnut (I think) accents. The whole first level is like this, was just refinished in 2017 (they paid someone to do it). Upstairs of the house is tongue and groove pine about 1.5" thick. The 2nd pic is the upstairs flooring from the bottom. I like both, but I dread the fact when we move (hopefully in 5-10 years) that we may have to refinish them. The dogs don't come inside here which helps a LOT.

Personally I like the wide boards of varying widths. The engineered stuff would be nice as you don't get gaps like real wood, but the real wood has more character.
