Tell your kids about banking

WF blows. My sister just took my 86-year-old mom to the bank. They would not let her get into her safety deposit box because her license is expired. She is 86 and does not drive and does not need a license. So if her license is good it is her, but if it is expired it is not magically her? WTF. She can't get an ID online because NCDMV says she has to come in. Of course you can't get an appointment right now. I just checked and there in nothing available in the whole state. And to top it off I think her birth certificate and marriage license is in the box, which she will need when she goes. I am going to call tomorrow and give the branch manager an ear full. It might not do any good, but it will make me feel better.

We were with LGFCU when they merged with Civic and feel the same way lol.

Duane

I've got a coworker that says the same. Idk what happened with the merger, but nobody came out to the better.

If it helps, you don’t have to have an appointment. Just be at the DMV at 5am and wait for the doors to open at 7. Ya it’s sucks, but you can get it done that day. I went through all this BS moving up here.

If you have a durable power of attorney from your mom, just go in yourself and get whatever out of the box. If the bank doesn't already have a copy, it can take a few days for their legal folks to review it and get it into the system.

If you don't, you should, but back to square one....you have to have a valid ID to get one notarized if you prepared one now. At least in NC. If she's in VA, it can be expired up to 5 years, but I think she has to be a resident in an assisted living facility.

Not really a viable option in her case. She is 86. Does not walk well and cannot stand up for very long.

She is in NC. No power of attorney because we have not needed one up until this point.

Sorry, I typed that while still hot in the head and didn't clearly point out where WF sees the fraud. The Check was made out to her but it was a fake check.
What is the fraud game here? Like what is the fraudster getting out of this?
You said it just came in the mail?

I can’t figure that part out!

Maybe they think she was trying to scam money by depositing it.

But I don’t see where the scammer benefits. I asked if anything said “cash this and you can keep half” or anything like that. Nope.

I don’t know what the other information came with it. I have the banks image of the check and that’s it. And on the back under the signature spot it is preprinted “for Wells Fargo mobile deposit only” and it was resigned by someone else. Another flag that I pointed out to her. 🙄

Looking closer at the check and searching some info, it’s from Summit CU in Madison Wi. I have a check number, bank acct and routing number. An endorsement signature I can almost make out.

Summit looks like a legit bank, so I’ll be giving them a call today.

Stopped by Truliant this morning to talk to them about their accounts. Just so happened that when I gave 30 second brief on what happened and why I was there, she grinned and said she used to be with WF and had almost the same thing happen to her personally and was kicked out of WF too. Hers was an Indeed Job application that came with some sort of Signing bonus. the check was fraudulent and the same thing happened to her.

Update, I’ve called the fraud department and I’ve been to two branches, spoke with their “Premier Bankers” of whom, both submitted requests for review. This morning I pulled out a VERY large withdrawal that needed branch manager approval.

Got back to the office and had an email saying the bank has received my request for review and would be in contact within 10 business days.

5 hours later, this afternoon, I get a call from Wells Fargo, we’re reinstating your account and reactivating your online banking immediately.

Cool, thanks. I’m still leaving your cheating ass. I’ll leave $5 in the account and keep my line of credit open…maybe.
