You skimmed the YouTube comments too huh?

Alright, so Marty as I may be, I passed on the original boat as he insists that he needs a couple hundred for it. And am getting the free boat listed above. Maybe ill get lucky and itll sink and take me with it lol. Based on the pcs, it was registered in 07.
I was just sitting out beside my Jeepster having a cold beer and listening to Skynyrd and remembering how expensive the free motor that I got for it years ago turned out to be the most expensive motor I put in it! But you do you Joel! lol!

Go the bank, get a loan, and buy a boat.

It will still cost you money to keep up. But, you stand half a chance of enjoying yourself on the water.

With no repairs and no upgrades my boat costs me $100.00 every time it hits the water.

I've brought my ideas to this board and have had them shit on. I've listen to the group and not listened to the group.

Listen to the group. Shit, even Fuller eventually listened to the group.

There's a metric shit ton of wisdom in this post. Well done.

My free boat:
2002 Scout Sportfish 175
90 Yamaha 4 stroke

Instantly had to drop a grand on the motor
Fix a ton of wiring
New batteries x2 (still need another to power a future trolling motor which is another expense)
Fuel sending unit is bad, need to fix it.
New bilge pump
Various mounting hardware which all has to be stainless
Anchors
Life vests
Throwable cushion
Titling/registration/taxes
Update trailer ie. bearings, lights, bunks still need new carpet
I added some electronics (fish finder and gps)
It’s turned in right now for a tune up to get ready for a hard summer. New lower unit oil, engine oil, filter, impeller, fuel filter, water separator, plugs, …..

Needless to say, I’m into it a few thousand. I love the boat, but she ain’t free. Something always needs tinkering with which costs. Just bought a high end pontoon about 2 weeks ago. I’ve already got to rewire lights and the fuel sending unit isn’t accurate on it. Always something.

Get it if you want, but be ready to drop some coin. Especially on an old wooden stringer boat.

I’d take that free scout any day. Them boats selling for 10,000 right now

.....that boat is the S.S. Minnow........... looking for a 3 hour tour.
..but seriously I'm sure you could find many more cheap boats if you look around. It's been said before about Aluminum boats. Most of them are lighter than a fiberglass of the same size. They are easier to tow, need less HP then a similar glass boat to get the same speeds. Not much to rot on a aluminum boat unlike an old fiberglass boat. I've got a 1860 G-3 and I beach it about anywhere I want do, sand, mud, rocks etc. I just pull it up on the shore and I don't worry about scratching/cracking the hull. It
's easy to push it off the beach and roll on down the river/lake etc.

Flame suit on.... But just brought home this old thing. Price was right, and me and my FIL are tag teaming it.

Enjoy it man. Can’t imagine being without a boat. Get her running, do the minimum to make it safe, beat on it all summer.
Tis the plan. nothing else, we are gonna put a trolling motor on it and go fish. Going into it as a project. Hopefully get the motor going and go make some waves this summer. Then do the floor and maybe transom this winter. And build bench seats and buy a swivel seat.

If needed. I got a 1963 75 hp johnson super seahorse I could be talked out of.

Hope it works out for you and you end up with hours of fun on the water :) If it doesn’t, well, you know now what we know:D

So it begins.... got the boat cleaned our and in the shed. Pulled the spark plugs and oiled the cylinders. Found a key that works as well.

Pulled the cover and sprayed oil in the cylinders. Motor freed up pretty easy and is now spinning over good. Will change the grease and try to fire it up on muffs soon hopefully.

Should probably update the info I have on the boat. This is a joint venture with me and my FIL to take the family out on. It's a 1972 Silverline Comoro 15T with a 1972 85 HP Johnson. Hull looks to be sound. Needs a lot of TLC. Floor needs replaced, and while the transom seems solid, it will likely get replaced when I do the floor. Game plan is to get it running as cheaply as possible, run it this year, and fix the floor over the winter. Will probably do bench seats I'm the back for the wives and kids, with swivel seats in the bow and at the helm.

Any and all help or advice is appreciated.

Can I take a picture of me on it with my guns? That way if the boat sinks one day I'll have photographic proof when I tell gov that I lost them all.
Sure. Thatll be $100.

Be very careful when cutting out the floor when you go to replace it. Measure the thickness of the flooring material and set the saw to that depth or just slightly less.
If you see dirt or grass thru the cut, you went too far. Don't ask me how I know this.
