Loaded the truck up with tools last night, left early this morning to go to just outside Charleston to buy a camper that was listed as "Very good condition" and a "very clean trailer"....spoke with the guy, said it needed nothing but AC, I told him I was on my way, cash in hand, and I would be there at 1pm.

I showed up at 12:55 (late, because he gave me the wrong address to his own house). In the driveway is a k-mart brand extension cord, a circular saw from 1984 (see blue light special), and scraps of 1/2" particle board....no saw horses, measuring devices, or implements to make a straight line in sight.....(my blood began to boil, as I instantly knew my time there....and home had been wasted). His wife popped out of the trailer in hopes to distract me and make chit-chat.

I asked him what he was doing, he told me "just fixin' a soft spot.....I told you about it"......to which I replied "oh no you did not, I wouldn't be here if you had"

I look into the trailer and he has a 4'x6' section that he has cut up, and I still see SERIOUS rot at all the edges, he seems to have resigned himself to trying to fix the part that was high traffic and easiest to get to without taking anything up.

People suck.....I don't know what angers me more, the fact that he thought it was ok to completely misrepresent this POS, or the fact that, despite having 3 days advanced notice, he was still trying to put lipstick on this pig when I arrived!

God Damn it I hate most people! Please feel free to blow up his phone at all hours of the night, I need the last 9 hours of my life, and ~$80 in gas back.

Im in Charleston today as a matter of fact.

Maybe Ill go look at it tomorrow and offer $500.

Seems like a good situation to have offered 2k.

:Edit:. Jeepinmatt would have offered $400.

I have zero time for a..... or interest in a camper project. I wouldn't have dragged that damn thing home for free I was so pissed off!

The rot I saw was so bad I suspect it sat unused for 3-5 years with a substantial water leak, OR being so close to the coast it was flooded at some point.

First question when buying a camper, has it been stored under a shelter/shed when not being used? If they say no then don't waste the time to go look at it.

My parents and I each have a 5th wheel camper and they stay parked under a shelter. Our camper is a 2000 model and it's in great condition and being kept under a shelter is a major reason for that.

I asked the general any floor repairs or leaks of any kind and was met with "it is in very good condition, needs nothing but AC".

Unfortunately, it doesn't matter to some people if you ask the right questions or not, they just lie and hope you won't notice or are already in deep enough, that you make an offer anyway.

I am really under the gun to get a camper so I can go full bore on my house renovation, I am probably making bad decisions as a result..... unfortunately the camper market is crazy right now.... sometimes you gotta gamble, I guess I should be happy I didn't buy it then find out..... stupid fawker, if he had of gotten off his butt and "fixed" the floor before I got there..... maybe I would have not noticed? The vapor barrier under the floor hid most of the subfloor from underneath.
