The $100 fill up

damn ricky, all that coming from a guy with a superswamper tatoo.

I am about to graduate from NC State in less than a week with a Degree in Business Finance ;)

I don't know if this has been said... But the Gas companies profit margins have not changed (sit around 10/15% I believe)...
The price of crude goes up.. they have to buy it and in turn raise the price..... OPEC's the one getting rich.. I mean seriously... look at Dubai!
NOW to piss off a lot of people... I believe IF we started actively exploring oil in Alaska... throw up a few rigs.. I believe you'd see OPEC say, WTF.. they're serious... and drop prices to prevent us from exploring/finding our own oil... and BTW Alaska has a lot of it! I think read somewhere... it'd cut down our foreign dependency by atleast 25%...

Yea they were mentioning the other day on the news how we have many fuel sources were having to sit on, and that the price of Crude Oil was very over priced at the moment being influenced by the current inflationary policy and a general misconception of the actual Oil supplies we have left.

when Mr. Bush took office, gas was a hair under 1.50 at the pump....:bounce2:

Also, I recall paying less than $0.90 for gas in the winter of 2002, right after I bought a BB gas truck.

Does he get the credit for making it so low, since it's his fault it's so high now?

its hard to take a broken glass, glue it back together and drink water out of it....
mccain or obama im sure will have a better energy policy than the current regime....
since the 70's this is the sharpest increase over an administration's time in office

Again, not stating or implying any political influences, but gas prices were hovering around that mark for years, excluding the huge 30-50 cent/gal jump during the first gulf war.

So, *if* we get hillery/obama for pres, it will go back to 1.50, right?

actually it should drp some no matter who is in office. just about every presidential election traditionally sees a small dip in the prices.

dont even get me started on the candidates though

we have three liberal idiots all fighting for the crown

the entire economy is periodic...look at the numbers throughout history...

up, down, up, down, ect... alot of the time a president is in office at a bad time in the economy. then you get people like clinton who rode the booming economy as if he had anything to do with it. he did nothing that others presidents wouldnt have done at the time.

im not saying that bush hasnt made any mistakes but its funny to hear everything blamed on him. pointing a finger like that sounds like it was eaten up right off of CNN only to be regurgitated into a post

We'll get a break around election time. Which ever canidate that is running for office will sponsor some big bill that makes them look like a robinhood. No one is going out of there way just yet to do this, the don't want to blow there load too early on this issue, but hey I don't vote, so I can't bitch about it.

Are they not campaigning about that yet? That should be Hillary's slogan.... cheap gas for all America..... too bad Health Insurance will probably triple...

If possible I'd go out and vote for Hillary at the NC primary just in hopes this thing will actually make it to the convention :usa:

The shot in the dark's looking better every day...

The next one to take office will simply spin around in their oval office chair and turn the knob down on fuel prices, it's next to the thermostat, sometimes new presidents get the two confused when they first take office.

How come no one has mentioned oil futures trading yet? Hello the stock market sucks (for above mentioned reasons) but trading futures on oil and gas is GUARANTEED to make you big $$ for the foreseeable future. So, trade those and drive it up!

DING DING DING!!!! Thank you!!! finally a promising answer! that coupled with the Gov't pulling back on the reigns of the oil companies to explore, drill, pump and refine. :shaking:

Also, NAFTA has created competition for us from 3rd world countries for fuel, steel etc.

I have but one suggestion for that. Refrain from purchasing foreign good as much as possible, mostly boycotting Chinese goods. Our money is putting SIXTEEN THOUSAND new licensed drivers on the road EVERY DAY in that country. Do the math. I don't care if they ride mopeds, that's a lot more fuel usage. Outsourcing to the other big one, India, is also making a huge run on natural resources. If we keep feeding them they will be the "next" America.

Stop shopping at Walmart (Chinese friend #1) and skip the Chinese goods from all the other stores. If we choke them off then they can't afford to buy fuel and everything else.

As you may have heard, each and every one of us will now get a nice rebate, otherwise known as an economic stimulus plan.
If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, all the money will
go to China .. If we spend it on gasoline it will all
go to the Arabs, if we purchase a computer it will all
go to India, if we purchase fruit and vegetables it
will all go to Mexico, Honduras, and Guatamala, if we
purchase a good car it will all go to Japan, if we
purchase useless crap it will all go to Taiwan and
none of it will help the American economy.

We need to keep that money here in America , so the
only way to keep that money here at home is to buy
prostitutes and beer, since those are the only
businesses still in the US.

I'm going to have a hard time convincing the wife that $1500 in beer is a good idea, but I'll sure try!

To everyone who blames the current or any other president for the high fuel prices...
First, the state and federal congress have taxed the :poop: out of a gallon of fuel. Next time any of you are at the pump, look at it, it usually states the amount of tax you are paying the government for the x# gallons you buy. A president can only suggest economic policy, he can then veto or sign what the congress sends back to him (hopefully not her). So this year, pay attention to who the senators and congressmen are that you vote for as well as president. Also, this goes for state elections too. Don't forget we pay a hefty bit in state taxes here in NC that get squandered by the government. BTW: federal budgets are proposed by the president, created in the House then sent to the Senate, although the Senate seems to want that authority too.
Second, the $100 or so a barrel price is on oil futures not the actual price, as someone previously tried to imply. Simply put, we pay tomorrows price today.
Third, to any Greenies out there, why are you on a 4x4 board anyway? I guess you can go veggie oil diesel or e85 but the cows, chickens and pigs will have to go hungry because your using their feed for fuel. Try actually going to any other country and see how green they really are before bashing the country you come from. If we gas and oil loving people out there can muster up as much noise as the greenies then a lot of this environmental :poop: would go away. Politicians like to appease the majority, squeakiest wheel and all.

end rant let the flames begin...

FWIW: at $4 a gal it will cost me over $200 to fill up my tank on my tow vehicle about $150 on my truck, diesel, and $70 for either Jeep. This will not deter me from wheeling when I can.

Cliff's Notes:
OPEC is screwing us, not the gubment. It sucks filling up all of my toys, but I'm still gonna wheel when I can.

Oh yeah they are screwing us by controling production to drive prices. Aside from becoming oil independent by finding, drilling and refining our own oil we can't control their prices. The government can remove/reduce the ridiculously high taxes on fuel. But wait, that would mean no money to build or maintain roads. Well if fuel gets too high we wont need them. I'd rather wheel everywhere anyway.
