The ballad of the old J-10

Brittney Spears “Oops I did it again” starts playing in the background.

No pictures today, but I installed a plastic fuel tank in my dads J10, ran new custom fuel filler/vent lines, and started tinkering on the wagoneer. I need to see if I can find a 1” freeze plug in Fuquay tomorrow, if not, the expanding type will have to do for now.

Pretty sure I have one of those in my xj. Put it in back in 07......

Little update, redoing brake lines on my dads J10, nicked one while doing the gas tank and they are basically rotten anyway.

The wagoneer had “billet” door releases and window regulator handles installed that stripped the teeth on all 4 doors. The front drivers wing window also was broken where it pivots on the bottom, and the speakers in it were rigged and destroyed the door card, so everything had to come out. Fortunately the ‘81 wagoneer I bought has perfect door cards front and rear, as well as speakers and very well working regulators and door lock releases

New and old wing window, might try repairing the old one, I think someone went to adjust it tighter and snapped it.

All the new parts in and test fitted. I need to reattach the factory speaker, reinstall a moisture barrier and pop the door card back on.

Found this at the Clayton LKQ yesterday, terrible waste but some people will be able to get the parts they need hopefully. The under dash AC, rear wing, and a few other things came home with me.

If anyone has a lead on a tach of some sort, I need one for the wagoneer.

Switched gears to the Cherokee. Tree guys dropped a branch on it and felt bad (no damage) but I convinced the owner to push it in the shop with the skid steer in the name of avoiding further damage.

This one showed up due to the parts wagoneer ad I had on FB, guy offered it to me and dropped it off a few days later. Oil pan is/was full of milky oil from something flood related. I thought for the longest time I had a leak between the coolant side and oil pan but after pressure testing overnight at 15psi, a leak did not appear. It needs a water pump gasket and got a new oil pan gasket, we will see what she does. As of now I don’t have a title for it but also don’t need a trail rig, if it runs decent idk what I’m gonna do with it.

Reinstalled the oil pan today, was happy to see the bottom end of the engine looked decent. Figured if the engine got water in it from a flood, the trans might have too. No pics, but I’m glad I did, filter was gone and there was moisture in the bottom of the pan, no damage from what I see, I don’t think it was run with any moisture in it.

Going tomorrow to grab a filter, fluid, and some other things for the Wagoneer, it needs a oil change, so I’ll use the used oil and filter to flush the Cherokee for a few minutes. Follow me for more cheap ass tips.

So, the Cherokee has a blown headgasket I’m assuming by the smoke. The intake and timing cover might be cracked as well judging by the bubbles. The plan for this one is to sell it as a no title trail rig. Would anyone that has followed this thread be interested? Or have any insight as to pricing? Winch bumper is back on it, but no winch

Kinda reviving the FSJ build thread adventures I keep going on. The red Wagoneer was a day from getting insurance and tags and I noticed a water dribble coming from the drivers side head, I assumed it was a freeze plug but alas… nope. Cracked head. Spent the next couple weeks dropping the 401 in and finally got it set right.

Dealing with a few little issues like randomly losing spark on my MSD system, I *think* it’s the pickup sensor in the distributor and the plug that goes to it, but not 100% sure yet. It shuts off at idle like you turned the key off, and after you fiddle with everything it’ll crank right back up like nothing happened.

Also happened across this beaut, been tinkering and running around a bunch the last couple weeks. A lot of the little problems were just things that needed to be worked loose or run.

The plan currently is to take the 360 from the wagoneer, put the heads on it from my grey short bed truck, toss it back together and either drive it, or sell it.
