The CJ7

You should just bring it to the Smokey Mtn. Jeep Invasion and hang out with the CJ crowd!
I am contemplating that. I need to find or make me some tow brackets. Also going to see if my 8274 will mount up šŸ˜„

Well in an attempt to take the CJ to the Jeep Invasion instead of the JKUR, I figured I had better change a leaking rear brake cylinder. Well that led to replacing a rear hard line, which led to needing two new front soft brake line, which lead to repacking front bearing, which led to replacing hub seals. It sure isn’t like the old days when you go to the parts store and readily pick up everything you needed for this. Only thing in stock was the wheel cylinde. :cool:Hopefully parts arrive today.

Ended up having to get new brake shoes for the rear. The other ones were just too soaked with brake fluid. Then moved back to the front and closer inspection of the calipers told be to just replace them both. So that is what happened last night. Finished up packing the bearings with new seals and installing the hubs, then replaced the calipers, rubber lines and bled brakes. Should stop like a new one now. Installed new lockable center console as well and added the tow lights to hook up to the RV. Installing new windshield this evening and should be ready to roll.

Looks like we are heading to the Jeep Invasion. Installed windshield last night and buttoned up a few other items. Wish us luck!

All good! Trip was great, besides being hotter than hot as was pretty much everywhere. The little CJ pulled well behind the motor home and had a good time tooling around Pigeon Forge and the back country. Met up with around 50 other CJ's on Friday morning at the Walmart in PF for a meet and greet. We all left there, headed through town and took the blue ridge parkway on a scenic ride that dropped us down in Townsend. The early morning temps along with the elevation made for a super enjoyable ride.

Do you need shocks? I have a set of Monroe shocks I bought for my 79 CJ. Length to fit a 2.5" lift. Wrong ones were sent & are too stiff for me. I put about 50 miles on them & took them off. Your welcome to them if you can use them to even want to try them!

Sorry Rodney, just now saw this. I guess I should check this more often! My loss, willness33 gain. :D

I totally forgot about the thread. Got a few updates.
Added some 1.5ā€ wheel spacers to widen the stance.

Also replaced the front fender flares. No more holes!

Here is where it goes downhill. I wanted a 2.5ā€ lift. I knew I wanted a 2.5ā€ lift. Started researching and recommended 4ā€ for 33’s. So I went with 4ā€. I am still pissed off about it.
Of course needed a transfer case drop. This went a lot easier than expected.

Also drop pitman arm, again easier than expected.

The spring hangers were just an expected for a 44year old vehicle. Ended up just cutting them off.

New 33/10.50’s and old school style chrome wheels ( Laredo )

Cleaned and painted the frame while I was at it.

After setting it on the ground, went to back it out and clutch would not engage, wtf! Well when I drop the t case, the rod to the clutch was hanging up on the header collector clamp. After a little clearancing, it was all good. Then I re-centered the steering wheel and took for test drive. All good except for it is too high now! The net lift is almost 6 damn inches based off of the old flat wore out ones. I am going to drive it for a few weeks, but will probably be removing a leaf to see if I can lower it done some. I am getting too old to get in!

Looks great. You can fit 33x10.5 with a 2.5.

Looks good man! Reminds me of my old cj7! What brand lift kit did you use? It is really tall for a 4" lift! wow

The problem with leaf spring lifts is it requires a stiffer spring unless it’s spring under to over, @drkelly had the right idea, it will make for a smoother ride too.

Also consider track bar to make you’re driveshaft live longer

Gave the CJ some more love.

Painted the front bumper

Next was the addition of an 8274 I have had in the shop for 10 years or so. The mounting plate had extensions on it. Must have been in a high crime area as all of the nuts were tack welded and needed cut off. :shaking:

I cleaned and painted the winch mount, drilled some holes and mounted the winch.

I need to get some longer batter cables for it next. Looks like we are heading to the Jeep Invasion with the CJ next month.

Some more items replaced.

Diff cover was dented which bugged me. Upgraded to a little more capacity with a drain plug for future use.

The steering dampener was shot, had no resistance at all. In with a new one.

Are you going to be able to sneak over to Jeep Invasion? We're doing the all CJ ride again this year.

Yes sir, we will be there in the CJ. Couple more small items to address and last trip in Motorhome before it heads to TX with new owners.

New rear unjoints. Front joint was giving vibes, Went and replaced both.

Fender marker lights were in bad shape, so a couple new ones.

And we now have a working Speedo. New cable and speedo gear was in wrong position when installed.
