IME, I'll tension it, think it's super tight, find out the alternator pulley slips, then tighten it more.
And on any of these that have a tensioner to set the belt and not just cranking on whatever accessory sets the adjustment, replace the tensioner when you replace the belt. When one needs replacing, the other usually follows in short order.
