The One More Time Build

I don't see how the thing blocking 80% of the radiator could possibly be the issue....

:D

Pulled the winch and it was fine. That's great and it blows all at the same time. It was a lot cooler today outside, in the first place.

That's a bummer. It looks pretty awesome up front.

Most 8274 mounts I've seen move the winch out more away from the grille than what you had it. That along with moving it down a little should help.

I will probably move it out and down like Chris said. That will be a project for later though. I don't have the time do deal with that right now. I'll just put something else up there for the time being. I really want to make that winch work though.

Getting the same color a little bit at a time.

That’s sharp :smokin:

Since the mount itself is effectively blocking the entire bottom of the rad, wonder what a few well placed "lightening holes" would do for airflow?
It's really not. I can't put any holes that will affect it. The winch is the width of the grill opening.

I finally got around to working on my cable shifters. I hope to get to uwharrie on closing weekend, so i figured i could benefit from them. I picked up some forklift levers from @vango and went with it out of sheer simplicity. Not the prettiest bracket, but it works. They work well.

Glad that thing worked out for ya man. Hope to see you down there if the weather isn’t total crap.

That looks great man.

IIRC, you were running a bit hot after the 8274 went in... and now??
Sure was Dave. Not sure yet, since it didn't get hot unless it was hot outside. I drove it around today, but with the weather this nice, it was normal. I'll have to wait until it's 85 degrees or hotter first. IMHO, it has to be better.

Damn, it's been a long time since I've posted in here. Not much has changed, but i have a front axle swap in the works.
@Caver Dave the jeep runs perfect temps after dropping the 8274 down to give more air to the rad.

I've been sitting on a disassembled waggy 44 for a few years now. My 71 K20 resto is going slow, so i thought i needed to slam this thing in the jeep. It already had a new set of hubs and rotors nib with 6 x 5.5. That's what I'm going to stay with. I think I'll have an easier time finding cool wheels with that vs 5 x 5.5. That brings up the problem of the 8.8 rear having 5 x 4.5. The only adapters are 2 piece and I'm not a fan of that. You'll have to stay tuned for the plan to convert the stock shafts to 6 x 5.5. This is budget, and i don't plan to drop the coin on aftermarket shafts unless what I'm gonna try won't work.

I hit up Rockauto for bearings, seals, and ball joints. I already had a used set of 4.10 for it with an open carrier. @doc Had some brand new warn premium hubs that i picked up a couple years ago.

Yesterday, i knocked out the ball joints. Damn, I'm thankful to be able to borrow my buddy's Snapon ball joint press. It's friggin bad ass. See @Croatan_Kid , that's this is why i didn't do both sides of my dana 30 in the jeep. Hopefully that makes you happy, lol. I also jumped into setting the gears up. Hit up @Jody Treadway for some advice and they are done! I happened to have new bearings in my dana 44 setup stuff, so that was a plus.

I'm currently waiting to find a lunchbox locker. I think i have a used one on the line. I'll buy a new one within a couple weeks if i can't find one.

I have a set of lift springs that match my rears, so i may just go back to spring under for the front to match the rear. I'm a little undecided on that.

Well, I tackled the 8.8 axle pattern. I decided to go the fun route and alter my factory shafts. I think they turned out pretty nice. Picked up a new cover too

So I came across a cheapish set of factory waggy aluminum wheels. Cheapish because the bolt pattern was wallowed out from loose wheels on 2 of them. Nothing I can't fix though. I decided to get some steel inserts and machined all 4 the same. Pretty happy with how they turned out. I love saving old stuff that may have gone to scrap.

Before I pulled the Jeep in, I remined myself that the spring perch width was going to be off. So I remedied that by grinding the housing out on the driver side and cutting part of the spring perch from the passenger side to reweld on the inside. I redrilled the pin holes too. It turned out pretty good and I'm happy with it. I didn't get any pics of that.

Out with the old and in with the new. I pulled her in the shop to yank out the Dana 30 front. It came out without any fuss. I pulled the 3" lift springs from the attic and removed the stock Yj springs that were set up sprung over on the D30. I also rummaged thru the attic and managed to turn up some Ubolts that worked out.

I ordered up a new tie rod and drag link from Rockauto so I could have steering. It looks like I need a shorter pitman arm, unfortunately. I pushed the axle 1" forward with spring plates I threw together and it didn't help that any.

Turns out that it sits perfect with the spring under vs the spring over. Really happy that it worked out right with the height. I was hopeful that the front driveshaft would work, but it's too long by and inch or so.
