The SHOP

Worked all day. Got home and spent a few hours trying to be a good father and then tucked the kiddos in bed. Got the dishes done and...

The SHOP is done. As a club we have really gone above and beyond to maintain a good relationship with the landowner and the neighbors. Very simply, that is no longer possible. Closing the park was not an easy decision and was not reached quickly. However, I firmly believe it is in everyone's best interest. Details, lawyers, court etc is simply not anyone's business but the club, board members and those of us who signed the lease.

Rock Corps did go out there and do it though. The SHOP was a great place for many of our brothers and sisters to wheel and enjoy each other's company. And we could not have done it as long as we did without the support of the community. Thank you all who came out and worked/wheeler the SHOP!

That's what this thread is about. If Rock Corps is looking for another property I know someone, lol.

Still working through the details of the breakup. So not actively looking at the moment, but I like the idea. Send me a pm.

I am all for cutting trails on my property in Pinnacle if anyone wants to help. But it would be available to ride invite-only on scheduled dates. By invite only that pretty much means if you help cut trails you are invited. So if anyone local wants to help hit me up, logging roads already exist to get close to the obstacles. There is plenty of mild stuff and plenty of stupid ridiculous stuff too.
We're in the process of moving back up that way, and I'd definitely be down to help out with this once back.

Side question..
How many acres did the "Shop" comprise of?

I’d be in for lending a hand and a saw as well. I can’t make it this weekend but with a week or so notice I can most weekends.

Hate to hear that the land owner is backing out of the agreement.

Just realized the (soon to be former) SHOP backs up to the almost 400 acres that our great uncle used to have when he was alive. Always dreamed about owning that land!

Just another mental note to not take UNF for granted.

It seems like private parties are not committed to keeping these parks open even though the customers are willing to pay, in some cases, entry fees multiple factors higher than Uhwarrie.

*Disclaimer*
I have no idea what the real reason for the SHOP closing. Just thinking of all parks that have closed in the last 5 years.

It would be a lot of work to keep a park open for not much money. On top of the lack of money coming in you have to factor in damage to the property, water runoff, erosion control, etc. Luckily for my land I don't have any creeks or streams (although kind of wish I did). I'd love to own a 4x4 park, but based on the cost of the land it wouldn't be worth it unless you had very good paying customers 45 weeks out of the year.

And you’d probably be required to have a very good surface water control program so adjacent properties and streams aren polluted with sediment.

To me, this would be the biggest unknown up front and expense both before opening and long term maintenance. Knowing there would be some pollution generated from those activities on the premises is, you would likely have to get a NPDES permit and perform routing water sampling and submit to the state for testing, etc monthly, etc. Those permits (and engineering costs up front) are not cheap and usually take at least 18 months to obtain.

I think the key is limiting how many people come, and how often people do come. Don’t draw too much attention to it and make it a public thing. Just a handful of folks here and there

Yes, but if you are wanting to make it a business worth buying property, this wont work. If you just want some buddies to ride at the property you already own, I agree.
