I am curious if gas stations all around NC are the same. It takes $80 to fill up my Tahoe. The pump stops at $50 so I end up completing two transactions with my bank card to fill up. One station I use to go to has raised it from $50 to $75. Everyone else have this problem? Raleigh? Charlotte?

Most of the times it is just the CC thing if you don't sign for it they cap it at 50$.
I pay cash for all my fuel and have run $60 in the blazer on the trailer and $85 in the Dodge then walk in and pay a few places now want to prepay and I just tell them if they want my money they better turn the pump on or I will go somewhere else and they turn in on. The Walmart told me I need to pay first and I told them you need to turn on the pump first or I would not move.
The rig blocks 3 sets of pumps. She then walked out and talked real nice to me and said sense you come in a lot we will let you pump first then pay from now on.

Jon, by any chance were you towing artillery at the time?

FWIW, I noticed it for the first time when I was refueling a boat. I thought the sensor was just good, because the boat was full at 52.30...

Yep had two cannons and 2 mortars on the trailer.:bounce: People were stopping off the main road to look and about shut down the gas station for people getting out to look.
IT was funny when she walked out, you think she was thinking she needs to keep me happy or what?
:shaking:

Most of the pumps I get gas at stop at $75. That gets me about 3/4 full so I don't fill up more than that.

in W-S, the one I usually hit stops me at $50. More annoying than that is that so many pumps apparently don't like the ZJ Filler neck and you can't set it and walk away. you have to baby the nozzle while it conitues to click off. I thought it was just me, then I watched another ZJ owner doing the same thing.

Out of the City, I have yet to reach a max amout you can pump, but then I haven't had to put over $60 in my tank.

I'm not real sure my gauge is right, so I never let it go much below 1/2 tank before I top off. And even then I'll put between $40-45 in my Jimmy. The most I've put in lately was $50.25 and I think it was almost empty, at least the receipt said 17 gallons and a dribble.

I've had the same issue at some stations here in Charlotte. It's kinda hit and miss, though. Sometimes it'll cut off at $75, sometimes not at all. Like someone said earlier, depends on the station.

Most of the stations I've gone to have $50 for debit cards and $75 for CC. Clerk has told me about some BS about stealing gas blah blah blah. You got my card authorized what more do you need?

$75 at most all of them I go to unless you prepay... truck stops being the exception.

This REALLY pisses me off!
I pull up in my work truck and trailer and use two pumps. $75.00 will not fill the truck's two tanks and I have equipment to fuel up too so I am using two pumps and can rarely get everything full. I have a perfect line of credit tied into my home equity that I can go buy a brand new truck if I want to but I cannot get a third nozzle going after I run my limit on two so then I have to go into the store and get them to turn on a pump for me and I have to go inside to pay the balance when I'm done.
And GOD FORBID! that I have to fill my pickup or Jeep within a day or two of doing the W/T because I have to go inside again to get okayed by the clerk so that I can be allowed to buy MORE gas from them!

my shell card cuts off at 100. i usually stop there unless i'm going on a trip or something, as it's only another 15-20 to finish the fill up and not worth the hassle of restarting the pump..

WAL MART,

I fill my work van there almost exclusively, because they don't shut the pumps off at $75.

There and I have never had the problem at SHEETZ either. I refuse to go to Kangaroo as they still stop at $50, Trade/Hess/Wilco seems to be the same way.

Most places in the interstat will pump to $75 I have found, and that is almost 3/4 tank in my van (2000 E-350) it is really annoying as I have to fill the compressor inside the van as well, and if it stops at $75 I gotta re insert the card just for that (about 3/4 gallon ) what a PITA !

I do this at least twice a week, sometimes more depending on where I have to go. (200 mile yesterday alone)

I didn't know there were SHEETZ in NC. I've only seen them in PA.

yep, they're starting to pop up... i've been to ~3-5 i guess in my travels around the state. the 2 i can recall off the top of my head are in way north raleigh on capital blvd. and off of 85 a bit east of burlington.

There are 2 Sheetz on US1 north (Capital Blvd) in Ral, one across the highway from Mallinkrodt, the other basically in Youngsville just south of Hwy 96 , the there is one on Newbern Ave at Rogers lane (Hwy 64 East Business)

And then there is one in Fuquay Varina on North main ( where 42, 55 and 401 converge ) They seem to usually be lower in price than the major oil theives as well.

These are the ones I know of, I'd be willing to bet there are more

I have been thinking of buying a new domain and starting a web site that lists all the damn pumps that cut me off! I drive a company vehicle that I have to use a gas card for. You have to enter the mileage when you transact but if the pump cuts me off I can't enter the same mileage again.

How about "www.pumpsthatsuck.com"?

Most of the time when I use my credit card, it'll cut off at $50 (usually Gogas or Shell/BP), but when I use cash, I can fill up, which is usually about $75.

Sounds good to me. I might even chip in on that.

I didn't realize that it might not cutoff if I pay inside. I always pay at the pump with my bank card. I have probably gone inside to pay less than 5 times in the last decade. I don't even stop at a station unless I can pay at the pump. If I go inside, it means I might have to stand in line.

I usually fuel up before I need that much. Always lived too far out in the country (and in the mountains up north) to risk getting too far below half tank. But on an interstate trip it is a PITA!

A related personal pet peeve.

Pay at the pump, pumps where the reciept won't print.

Pump says
"Clerk has reciept" (Or similar)

GGGRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrr !!

If I have to go inside and wait in line (behind idiots, lottery players, and punks hitting on the cahsier) for my reciept, it defeats the whole point of pay at the pump.

One of my regular fuel stops is really bad for this. I told the manager that I was going to quit coming in for gas if it happened one more time.

Sorry for the hijack.

Yea, I can see the Sheetz on capital Blvd from my master bath. it's good to have cheap (not really) gas close to the house. Sorry, but $50 is too damn much to pay for a tank of gas when the oil comapnt posts a 3rd Quarter profit of $20 Billion. I think they can still make money at $1.50 a gallon.

Totally off-topic, but I'd kill for a Sheetz in the Charlotte area. Ok, back on topic. When the whole gas debacle started, I'd routinely get pissed that the pumps turned off at $50. I went into one station, asked for the manager and politely informed him that $50 doesn't go as far as it used to with gas at 2.50/gal (at the time). I never went back to that gas station to see if it may have changed. As someone already stated, using pay at the pump, why does it matter how much gas I pump. They already have all the info they need from my card.

Ahh, Bill! It seems we have the same karma. My wife does the bills in the house and she's starting to question me about all the handwritten gas reciepts in my wallet. I swear it happens at least once a week.
