So we may be in the market for another vehicle and she has fallen in love with the 06 sequoia. Main wants and needs is 3rd row seating, 4x4, video entertainment, nav, and backup camera. I'm trying to tell her to go with a newer like 08 new body style and just add the "features" it may not have. Of course the price is going to be cheaper for a 120k mile 06 vs a 120k mile 08 but I like the newer version lol.

Any pros cons of those yr models?
Anything in particular to look for on these vehicles?

Sorry I'm no help...but I gotta say I'm with Ashley, I prefer the older body style! Or she can keep the theme & opt for the Lexus gx470 or 460 ;)

My dad has one with that mileage. It's nice and drives well. The 4.7 isn't a power house but is decent. Doesn't get very good mileage, but none of them do. He hasn't done anything but normal maintenance and pulls a fewer mowers behind it 5 days a week, 9 months out of the year.

The 4.7 vvt is actually pretty badass for what it is. Best friend has an 06 tundra and its actually pretty damn quick. He gets like 15-19mpg depending on heavy his foot is that day. They hold value pretty well also.

The newer body style seem bigger to me. I have a 2011 tundra and really like it. Not the same but kinda is.

My wife drives a 2008 Sequoia and LOVES it. It has the 5.2L and it IS a pretty substantial vehicle. That said, it handles nice and it's pretty quick. And you can't beat the toyota build quality IMO.

Nothing useful to add here, except that the "video package" on cars is pretty much pointless now, when you can buy an Amazon Fire tablet for $35 today (or the Kids version for $85). Way cheaper to just hand the kid a tablet and headphones than mess w/ all that built-in stuff...

Yep

Yea I know what u mean. And we bought our niece that lives with us one, but it's WiFi only.

Nothing a mobile Hotspot can't fix
or you just pre-load videos on it while you're at home. Before road trips my wife loads up the movies.

We went thru this when looking for my wife's 4runner. She liked the older body style, but wanted a very specific set of options. It was easy to find the newer ones, but a bear to find the newer years of the old body style with the right configuration. Took us at least 6 months, but that was a year ago, and she still smiles every time she drives it.

Except when that bitch puts you into hock. Not so much then.

Those high maintenance bitches are the ones that you do not marry, lol.

Well crap, now in-car video, nav, and backup cameras are "needs". No offense, just never thought I would see that uttered by anyone. I thought needs were engine, transmission, wheels, etc...

No wonder new vehicles are so damn expensive.

It's true that those things are not "needs", but after having them, you appreciate them and don't want to have a vehicle without them. My wife didn't NEED Bluetooth on her 4runner, but I rest easier knowing that when I call her my name is displayed on the radio and she just pushes 1 well placed button on the steering wheel, and then audio magically flows though the speakers and we can both hear each other clearly. No fumbling for phones with hands and eyes off the road. Also, the quality and integration of factory stuff is hard to beat. And things are usually bundled where if you get 1 option, you get the other 3 ( didn't care for navigation, but nav/Bluetooth/backup cam were all driven by the same OEM headunit).

My wife had a 2005 sequoia. We really liked it. More room than a Tahoe and the huge back doors are great for loading/unloading kids car seats when they're small enough to need the style you have to take in and out every time you go somewhere. We bought it with 85k on the ticker. The first year it was great. At 105k the air recirculation system went out and needed a pump and at least one valve. While we had them replaced we also had the water pump and a few other things done. Within 3 months of all that work one rainy day it developed a belt squeak. Not the typical steady squeal, more of a pulsing higher pitched squeak like a tensioner making noise but you could touch a bar of soap to the belt and it would immediately go away. Mechanic claimed it was because he used a cheap belt and replaced it with a better one. All was well for a month or more but when the weather got cool and wet again the squeak came back just like before. Back to the mechanic again. He showed me a Toyota service bulletin claiming that to fix it we needed another new belt that was over 100 bucks this time. Now were on our 4th belt and within a month squeaking again. This time all idlers and tensioner were replaced and another belt was added. No problems for 6 months over the summer. Then winter and cool wet weather hit and its back again. 3 weeks ago I asked the wife to take the damn thing to A legit Toyota dealership and have a TOYOTA mechanic work on it instead of the family mechanic. She scheduled an appointment to have it fixed. Within an hour they came back and told her she needed a new tensioner, the factory one was bad and that it had never been replaced. Price 450. At 9:30 that night she pulled in the driveway in a new 2010 sequoia and the problem was fixed. Apparently the 2010 they gave her as a loaner while hers was being fixed was nicer that her 05 and she needed it LOL. The point of this story is that even with all these problems (mostly caused by a shitty mechanic) We still loved it and we still bought another one.

So I'm headed up to Raleigh today to check out this 06 that has caught her eye. So will see it looks clean from the pictures. Just not my color but she loves it.... that red maroon ish it's ok I guess.

So everything checked out to my liking except she wouldn't go into 4 lo. I've read that it's a common problem with them. But they said they would come off the price or fix it before we take delivery. But I like it drives good... wish I would of went that route instead of the 4runner.. but maybe it will be "too big" for her and I can just take over lol and just pass her the 4runner haha.
