EDIT: yes, yes this is an april fools joke... I knew I wouldnt be around my computer either yesterday or this morning, so i decided to fill in my april fools absentee ballot, on the 30th. (i hope that didnt conflict with any "official" april fools day rules. It was this or say that a trail was being closed by the tree-huggers. I also scrolled down just now to see that my post started some kind of race war...whoops.

If North Carolina keeps this up, we will be the next Virginia:shaking:

Well i dont know how much you all pay attention to the N.C. legal system, but this one caught my eye.

A bill was passed this week which significantly reduces the amount of modification that can be done to a vehicle. according to the new bill, effective 01 August 2008, vehicles will no longer be able to pass north carolina inspection if they have "... modifications which greatly deviate from the manufacturers recommended specifications..." blah blah blah "... including modifications which could inhibit the safe and efficient performance of the vehicle or cause a potential danger or hazard to public roadways."

Some of the "issues" prohibited were:
-Vehicles which are too long/wide/tall
-Vehicles which had accessories which entended too far beyond the plane of the vehicle
-Vehicles which had excessive/not enough lighting
-Vehicles which lacked proper bumpers
-Vehicles which lacked encloseable cabs
-Vehicles whose suspensions were raised/lowered more than 2" above or below the manufacturers recommended specifications
-Vehicles whos tires diameter exceeded 3" larger than the manufacturers recommended specifications

-Vehicles with glass replacements
-Vehicles with improper visibility-what does this even mean?
-Vehicles whos tire width exceeded the coverage of the vehicles fenders
-Vehicles lacking mufflers

I cant remember them all but these are the ones that I remembered or the ones that pissed me off the most.

So basically if i want to get my cherokee inspected after august i have to take off 3.5" of lift and put 31's back on? i'm going to go get it inspected this tuesday anyway so it shouldn't matter for at least another year for me.

How can they enforce this? I will just change it back after i get it inspected.

The only vehicles that most of us own that wont be affected are our tow rigs.

First they tax us more on our water, then they take away our garbage disposals, and now this...what next?

Where does this stuff come from? Oh yeah from idiots driving around in cobbled together junk without mudflaps slinging rocks and mud at every other vehicle on the road. People get aggravated seeing this and thus the lawmakers throw down a set of laws and they get voted in.

Kind of makes it tough to do a SAS on my truck and run 35s doesn't it?

Where did you find out this information? Post a link, I want to see what else they are f-ing up.

yea i dont think to many inspection stations are going to follow those....

Do you have a bill number or other reference? I searched and can't find anything, so a bill number would help.

Even if it passes inspection it still is not road legal, right? I can't complain, I had 3 years of enjoyment on the road... and I have a tow/trailer... I think I will live.

at least this means I will have cheaper insurance :D

Yeah, i would like to see a reliable source... no offense CAS. This would be VERY hard to enforce in this state, and will make a lot of people really mad next time they go in for a normal inspection. Hell, the jeep dealer down the road sells jeeps off the showroom floor which would be illegal according to this?

That law would kill this crap from riding around...

And the part about "Vehicles which lacked encloseable cabs"... why is it soooo important to have an enclosable cab? Hell... the only time my top is up is when it is raining...
And... what the hell is a MOTORCYCLE?!?! Have any of you ever seen a normal motorcycle with an enclosable cab? (Yes I know there are a few out there but seriously folks...)

i doubt the inspector is going to be over there with a tape measure

but i understand what you are saying

haaa i get to do mine:)

Hell, i can get a sticker..... i dont doubt that most of us could if we tried just a little. The problem is when we start getting pulled over by every dickhead cop wanting to enforce the new fender coverage laws...... Then we can get fined for knowingly accepting a bogus inspection sticker...... this isnt about how we can try to cheat our way around it.....

G.S. 20-183.8

1. Infractions: A person who does any of the following commits an
infraction and, if found responsible, is liable for a penalty of up to fifty
dollars ($50.00):
(b) Allows an inspection sticker to be put on a vehicle owned or
operated by that person, knowing that the vehicle was not inspected
before the sticker was attached or was not inspected properly.

Anybody get some valid reports on the truth of this info, all jokes aside this could be a real problem to many, users of modified stuff and retailers. For those in buisness bye-bye market!

i imagine this law is negated by the 1 that exludes vehicles for off road use, ie the new law is to kill caprices w/ 24's
