EDIT: yes, yes this is an april fools joke... I knew I wouldnt be around my computer either yesterday or this morning, so i decided to fill in my april fools absentee ballot, on the 30th. (i hope that didnt conflict with any "official" april fools day rules. It was this or say that a trail was being closed by the tree-huggers. I also scrolled down just now to see that my post started some kind of race war...whoops.
If North Carolina keeps this up, we will be the next Virginia
Well i dont know how much you all pay attention to the N.C. legal system, but this one caught my eye.
A bill was passed this week which significantly reduces the amount of modification that can be done to a vehicle. according to the new bill, effective 01 August 2008, vehicles will no longer be able to pass north carolina inspection if they have "... modifications which greatly deviate from the manufacturers recommended specifications..." blah blah blah "... including modifications which could inhibit the safe and efficient performance of the vehicle or cause a potential danger or hazard to public roadways."
Some of the "issues" prohibited were:
-Vehicles which are too long/wide/tall
-Vehicles which had accessories which entended too far beyond the plane of the vehicle
-Vehicles which had excessive/not enough lighting
-Vehicles which lacked proper bumpers
-Vehicles which lacked encloseable cabs
-Vehicles whose suspensions were raised/lowered more than 2" above or below the manufacturers recommended specifications
-Vehicles whos tires diameter exceeded 3" larger than the manufacturers recommended specifications
-Vehicles with glass replacements
-Vehicles with improper visibility-what does this even mean?
-Vehicles whos tire width exceeded the coverage of the vehicles fenders
-Vehicles lacking mufflers
I cant remember them all but these are the ones that I remembered or the ones that pissed me off the most.
So basically if i want to get my cherokee inspected after august i have to take off 3.5" of lift and put 31's back on? i'm going to go get it inspected this tuesday anyway so it shouldn't matter for at least another year for me.
How can they enforce this? I will just change it back after i get it inspected.
The only vehicles that most of us own that wont be affected are our tow rigs.
First they tax us more on our water, then they take away our garbage disposals, and now this...what next?
