Tick season is here!

That's an old wives tale. People say the same shit about the mosquitoes, but have you ever noticed how many of them there are up north? It's the national bird of Canadia.

Wearing boots and long pants and ducktaping the pant legs to the boot will stop ticks from crawling up your legs in the woods and on trails, it's the most effective method I've found in 25 years of surveying. After wrapping the tape well applying a healthy dose of heavy deet repellents like Deep Woods Off on boots, pants and spraying your clothes around your waist will stop most ticks and chiggers from getting anywhere besides your head/neck. I hate putting anything but the 7% deet, aloe/skintastik type repellents on my skin anymore, the higher deet sprays make my arms/face/neck burn and turn red in minutes in the sun and sweating and I've had to wash even light spraying off immediately several times. Also if your only out for 2-4 hrs you can shower when you get home and scrub well all over w a washcloth/soap and that will remove most ticks and chiggers before they dig in, scrub well around legs ankles and feet to get the chiggers off, after 3-5 hrs chiggers can get into your skin and can't be scrubbed off. If you use the 7% on boots, clothing, etc you need to re apply it about every 2 hrs or you'll get some bites.

@shawn May be. Interesting read here; http://www.caryinstitute.org/newsroom/lyme-disease-freezes-may-reduce-ticks

I have a good friend that spends a fair amount of time in Maine every yr. He might as well be a professional hunter and fisherman. Anyway, he says the skeeters are worse up there in season than anywhere he's ever been(EVERYWHERE.

Rode the Mtn bike for an hr and a half today getting friendly with all kinds of trees and bushes and didn't find a single one, musta been going too fast! Lol

Sitting at the Dr's office right now. Got bit about 2 weeks ago. Just recently started feeling real rough and running a fever. Still have to wait on blood test results, but they are pretty sure I have rocky mountain spotted fever

@Lee Every time that has happened to me, a two-week run of Doxycycline fixed me up. The tests (when I had them done) always came back clean.

The doc tried putting me on a one-week run once. I got sick again promptly thereafter.

@shawn that's what I just picked up. Two weeks, take twice a day

Make sure you get some breakfast before taking the morning one, and stay out of the sun. That stuff makes you super sensitive to sunlight.
