Time for a trailer upgrade. Seeking some advice

My 24' deck over tag is the best pulling trailer I've ever owned-loaded or empty. No roll. Any trailer will/can pull great if loaded correctly. ...

Is that the same one you had at Golden Mountain? It was burly.

Up side to a bumper pull is your flatbed truck could tow it and your superduty could tow it while still hauling shit in the bed--that, and as we all know, goosenecks under 24' are fawkin dumb. Go buy a professional hudson deckover with no dovetail and be done with it.
Never thought about the dual hauling perspective......I like that. Having pulled more bumper pull anything, I've actually been let down so to speak. My gooseneck hasn't overly impressed me, so I'm wandering if a fith wheel camper would do the same.
 
@mcutler What brand is that? I can't make out the decal, and I don't recognize it either.. What are the specs...... I believe my frt end loader might fit on that with a bush hog still attached. Right now I have to wedge it between my ramps with the loader on the top of the gooseneck. I need more trailer myself.
 
@mcutler have you lost any of those G rated Goodyears yet?

Funny story. ...i will say one, but i feel it was due to my neglect of not checking pressure. These things are so stiff that they never bulge, therefore a simple walk around is not a sufficient test. I only have two on this trailer but four new gladiators (14 ply) on my cage trailer. I bought these two as part of a used set for $80 from a customer of mine. They came of an rv and op didn't want to run them because they were out of date. I've had them 3.5 years myself. ...

New price are over $300 each. Was talked in to trying the gladiators 14 ply- ($140) and so far so good...over a year now. If these prove problematic i would not hesitate to drop the coin for more Goodyear 14's.

Ran 10 ply Firestone Transforce lt's for years with good results but still blew 2 a year. 14 ply are a much better investment in the long run, one blow in 3.5 years and ZERO flat repairs...remember my most frequently visited places are scrap and salvage yards, many road hazards.
 
Mark Zaboth is running the G rated Gladiators on his toy hauler. Nothing but good things to say about them. I think he's got about the same age on his, maybe a year or two.

I have regular E rated BFG Commercials on our enclosed. Lost one on the way to Dixie Run, not sure why. It was a two years old. It might have started leaking under way, it might just have been its time. I'd consider moving over to Gs, but I've got a whole set of the BFGs right now (including spares) and only a couple of wheels that are rated to 110psi.
 
Nothing wrong with E. Trailers are the most abused/least maintained vehicles on the road today. They get dragged through every pothole with huge loads, passenger side dropped off shoulder repeatedly, baked by uv rays when not being used, very little suspension control -tires do most of the work, raked over curbs, and we seldom inspect them until something let's go. We as a recreational group probably take somewhat better care than most, but as much as i tow, i avoid other trailers on the interstate like the plague because you never know what might fall of these piles. ...

IIRC your trailer is dual axle. You should be good with Gs. I recall BJ Allen talking about having nothing but issues on his toyhauler when he went to Gs, but he contributed that mostly to the scrub from triple axles.
 
Figured it was time for an update.
I picked up my Kaufman 14k trailer yesterday. I went with a 18+4 deck over tag along so I can still have plenty of room in my bed for cargo. I also use a ladder rack frequently so that was also a consideration. I have considered getting a camper shell too for traveling.
I shopped around A LOT and decided on the Kaufman because of their quality and reputation. I did upgrade to Firestone Transforce radials and added a spare.
The trailer weighs 4160# according to the scales at the truck stop. That leaves me 9800# of capacity of which no more than 5000# will be used.
I went with overkill as my main objective was to have a safe trailer that would last a long, long time.

Nice! I am on my second Kaufman, these are good trailers! When you scaled it, did you drop the trailer off the truck to get the tongue on the scale? My 18' low-deck weighs 2700# and is a much smaller trailer, so I am skeptical of that weight.

I did not drop the trailer. I actually compared 2 scale tickets I have. One back in April when my truck with me in it weighed 7440.
Last night at Love's on exit 86, it weighted 11,600 with me in it. 11,600-7440=4160#

My axle weights were roughly even at around 3500-3700 each (steer, drive, trailer). 99 Super Duty 4x4, 7.3, ECLB

I like Kaufman trailer as-well, picked up an gooseneck for farm use and to haul jeep with this past summer. Its an deluxe model, 20' flatbed with 4' popup dovetail and dual jacks.
