Looking to get new tires for my XJ. Currently on 32x11.5r15. Not much seems to come in that size thats a decent tire, so looking at going up to a 33x12.5r15. Currently looking at the Goodyear Duratrac, General Grabber X3, and Falken Wildpeak MT. Are there any other options to look at? Id like to keep it an MT and not an AT as well. Do a good amount of highway miles but like to hit the trails whenever I can. Live in the mountains most of the year so need to be good on snow and ice as well. Broke ass college kid so dont want to go to expensive.

I heard a lot of good on that tire, but i prefer an MT over the AT. If the KM3 would hurry and come out then that would also be a contender.

We own the KO2, the KM, and the KM2. I can't tell the difference off-road between them. The KO2 is a hell of a lot better on the street than the KMs, though. Especially in the rain, ice, and snow. Fuck a whole lot of driving the KM on a thin sheet of ice.

For sure its going to be better on the streets then a mud terrain. I do like to be able to claw my way out of a hole if need be. My buddies all have KO2 or KM and the KO2s struggle every time weve gone out in the wet it seems. Even my amazon special off brand MTs have gotten though some stuff that even the KO2 couldnt. If I decide to go with an AT then the KO2 is definitely the top of the list.

I wouldn't consider the duratracs a mud tire. They don't clean worth a damn, work very similar to the bfg ats in mud. But they are great on snow and ice.

No promises on size availability, but I got great service out of a Toyo Open Country M/T.

32" swamper SX. I'm a die-hard Truxxus fan so I vote 33x12.5 Truxxus MT

How are they on these banner elk roads in the winter, if you have experience with them? That’s my main focus with my decisions is how they are going to do up here.

I hear great things about them, but are way more expensive then anything else I’ve looked at. Can’t seem to find a good enough reason to fork out the extra dough.

They are excellent on snow and ice. Better than kO2 or my current nitro all terrains. They are the best non-snow tire I have ever used on slick roads.

I reread your original post, and you said you would prefer mud terrains over all terrains, but then said your main focus is how they do on slick roads.
Imo no true mud tires are worth a poop on slick roads. By design they can not work well on ice or packed snow. If you want a good road tire for slick roads, and don't want a snow specific tire, I would stick with all terrains.

I’ve heard some people say mud terrains are better in snow the all terrains and Vice versa, so that’s why I’m just trying to get opinions from people on what they think. I have shit brand mud terrains now and they aren’t the worst but definitely sketchy

Lived in Boone for 9 years. Had most every tire mentioned on here. BFG KO2 is hands down the best tire I ran for both street/snow/light offroad duty. Most MTR's have little/no siping which greatly affects snow performance.

Honestly if highway driving and wanting a MT that'll last ya gonna spend some money... with that being said I've always been bfg fanboy for my dd and still like bfg but I've seen the Toyo open country m/T last 65k on a heavy ass dodge diesel megacab that's never been off-road I may it's life! They are loud imo tho I went with copper stmaxx and love em not a m/t tho but could fool me going up the mtn trails in snow, mud, rocks

Terra Grapplers on the truck have 40k on them, and are worn a little over 1/2 way. They're GREAT in snow and wet....had them in the mud ONCE at Morris Mountain....seemed to do OK, but it was flat..Pretty sure they'd suck ass in the real mud

Cooper Discoverer AT3's on the exploder. EXCELLENT in the snow! Never a single issue in wet, and in mud.....well, lets just say they'll pull a trailer up a 20 degree incline but dig a 4" trench doing it..not ideal, but I've never been STUCK with these tires. 2nd set, they wear even and I got about 45k out of the first set

So to be serious, I am running Cooper STT Pros on my tow rig, I have no complaints so far but only had them a few months. I had BFG ATs before, and they were great for road, but stunk it up in anything but dry grass (even then I would spin a tire).

Has anyone ran those falkens? They seem like a great bang for buck tire. Seen them run on Dirt Every Day on their super duty build. But want some real experience with them. Looked into the coopers as well and they are on the fence with me.
