Tired of bad food

"Hardee's anywhere wait in line 10-15 Min's for my order" That statement is definately true. I am 27 y/o and have ate fast food for the majority of my adult life. I stay active in sports and get my exercise but i smoke as well and dont have the stamina i used to have. i have been feeling especially tired lately and i think it is due to my diet. i have been 150 lbs since i was 18, now i am at 169 and its not muscle so i beleive my metabolism is quittin on me. I drink about 3 sodas a day if not more, i hated water, east fast food for breakfast lunch and dinner (expensive i know) and majority of the time its fried and greasy. I just changed my diet this week and am working out on a reguar basis. I feel better already!

So maybe since the service sucks that is a good reason to service yourself (not in that way) and start making some sandwiches. Lets all get healthy yall!

Well, I never eat breakfast anyway, havent for the past 10 years, unless its on the weekend or special occasion. That takes care of one " meal" during the week. I usually go to either Chicfila or Jersey mikes for lunch ( being that school is 30 mins from my house) I get the grilled chick sandwich with the fruit cup, and water. The sandwich come with this great smoked honey mustard in a packet, really adds alot of flavor. Or i'll get a reg turkey sub on wheat, let, tomato, onion, either honey mustard or regular mustard. maybe a little oil vinegar on occasions, with a bag of the baked chips. then i usually cook something at home for dinner.

Honey mustard is also almost fat free, or is fat free. there is NO fat in honey, but there is sugar. just another way to change things up to keep from getting bored with the same food.

Get a vacumn sealer and go to Sams. Buy a load of chicken breasts and grill them. Vacumn seal and freeze. Thaw in the fridge for a cold sammich, drop it in boiling water for a hot one, use for stir fry and reheat later. Be imagimative and a cheapskate.

Breakfast: South Beach bars, shittons of protein, very little fat and peanut butter is damn good.

I had to do something after my cholsteoral was over 300; 34 yo and I am 6' 180 and very active. But I eat WTF I want to on the weekends and vacation, doctor be damned.

Chip, there is a place in hickory that will do what you need. They are on 127 in front of Sgt. peppers/ Planet Fitness, next to Ace Hardware.. I can't remember the name for some reason, right now.

Cam and I ordered from there for a while. The food is good, and it is packaged in individual meals. I think it runs about $4 a meal. They do breakfast and lunch. You order on Friday and pick up your weeks worth on Monday.
They have a menu of choices every week and the (hot, buxom, and friendly)lady who runs the place is a certified nutritionist.
I will find out the name if you need it.

Is it the Health Hut?

I've kept a closer look on what I'm eating lately as well.

oatmeal and a banana for breakfast, instead of a biscuit
diet drinks/water, instead of regular drinks
salad or soup for lunch, instead of a burger
granola bars/oatmeal bars, instead of vending machine crap
home-cooked meals, instead of eating out

...and have dropped about 15 pounds in the last couple of months.
Now if I could just "make" time to excerise...

Is it the Health Hut?
No, just talked to the wife.
It is called Center street Eats.
Can't find a website for them, but this is what Google says.

Center Street Eats
2250 N Center St
Hickory, NC 28601
(828) 328-6080

Give them a call.

X2 on these! They're a little spendy per bar, but you can find them on sale occasionally at Lowe's Food.
I love them, all I eat for breakfast, and they tide me over nicely 'til lunch.

You can get em in cases at Sams Club or in smaller boxes at Target for a fair price. Also, the GoLean bars are not bad either. Most of the Powerbar stuff is loaded with sugar (almost as much as a can of Mtn Dew) and carbs.

Cook enough for 2-3 meals or more at a time to have some leftovers for another day. I might make a gallon of stew at a time (just me, the Mrs and the Dog). I usually grill 4-5 chicken breast at a time. I'll have 2 left over to cut up for a salad later, a samich, or whatever. I might put some terryackee on one to have with rice another day. Keep some canned fruit around. Not exactly fresh, but handy. A habit I have is to eat about an hour or 2 before I get off work, that way I'm not thinking about food on the way home. If you have a fridge/locker at work, stock some shit in there. Samich turkey and a loaf of bread are cheap. Oranges last a while. Cambells low sodium chicken noodle soup + unsalted crackers are good, no fridge needed. For what you spend eating out, you can stock a workplace fridge up pretty well.

Between a handful of us we have a condiment stocked fridge, we keep some plastic dishware handy, a George Foreman grill, a coffee maker, and a frying pan, spatula, and a can of Pam. On slower days we've put the pan on a plate of aluminum and used a propane torch to make grilled samiches and eggs and such.

Chip, as said youll be better off and probly happier if you can find a way to cook your own food... and I know that I dont wanna hear about another scare anytime soon...

when I was in school and worked, I had no time for food, and didnt feel like cooking late at nite when i got home... so, as said, I would cook for a few days in advance on my days off...

Bagels are a good breakfast food, but watch the butter and creamcheese...

As for meat, the biggest problem with grilled chicken when reheating is that it becomes tough... so i would cook it slightly less on the grill if i wasnt eating it immediately, and keep it in the fridge with a lil water or olive oil in the container... but i knew that it would get completely cooked thru when i reheated it....

grilled chicken can be used for many things: sandwhich, wrap, salad, etc... and if you put some lettuce, tomato, pickle on it, itll add other nutritional value... just stay away from the mayo...

the leaner the beef that you get at the store, the less grease will cook out of it... and if you have a GF grill, you might be suprised at the grease that cooks outta things

if you like fish, it can be healthy for you, as long as its not fried...

GUYS!
There are somethings that are almost impossible to live without, one is Mayonnaise.
Olive oil and Canola oil, sorry, just can't stand the taste. I have tried.
I do buy the leanest burger I can find, prefer it that way.
Do want to get a GF grill.
I eat Chicken often, have to switch up sometimes.

I know my list sounds like I eat out often. Really i don't, that is just what was in my recent memory.

I am living with the effects from fast food & foods with saturatred & trans fats(trans fats go straight to the arties). Quit eating fast food at all! it will give you a heart fart sooner than later.

once your heart tissue dies it's dead and you can't get the lost part of your heart back.it just sits in your chest like a dead piece of hamburger...

I found this out last easter! so take a word from someone that edjucated at the school of hard knocks. it's no fun being 36 and living like a 60 or 70 year old person. and people wonder why I'm bitter when they hasstle me cause I can't do things like I used to be able to....

I only rad the first post and he talked about KFC giving him just legs and thighs. I went to KFC here in Jacksonville and they didn't have any chicken. How can a chicken shack not have Chicken? Any one able to answer that one?

The humane society must have been out of cats that week.

Keep eating it and it'll be something you can't live with. That stuff is the satan of condiments, it's like applying straight grease to everything you put it on.

There is a brand called Smart Beat. No fats, no cholesterol.. I like it. I can't even stand the smell of regular mayo now.

You are correct!
But you know what is entorely impossible to live without?
A heart.

Now, which one would you rather have?

A couple of years ago, I weighed in at 245lbs. I sat behind a desk at a computer all day. Didn't get any exercise, ate fast food for 2-3 meals a day, etc. I decided to change. I stopped eating french fries for one year and drank only 1 soda a day (usually at lunch to get a caffeine fix) and with no exercise lost about 15 lbs in a couple of months. Then I turned 21 and started boozing it up more (go figure). Feb 06 I was about 230lbs and decided to start going to the gym. Went 4-5 times a week from Feb-Jun 06 and turned alot of the fat into muscle. I dropped to about 210lbs but had so much more energy and stamina when it came to routine things (like going up the stairs or walking long distances.) I also changed jobs in mid-05, and I think that helped. Went from sitting at a desk to working in a warehouse. Anyway, I've fallen off my own wagon here lately. Got a membership to the YMCA and started going there for about a month, but then slacked off. I'm back up to about 230lbs and it's killing me knowing I'm gaining my weight back. I got married back in October and we are just so busy all the time that it seems we never have time to cook. Always going out to eat. My wife did go to Schuler's Meats in Thomasville last week and got ~16 chicken breast for about $13, so we've done good this week. I work in Denton and the only fast food place to eat there is Bojangles, and it's my weakness on some days (like today). Anyway, I guess to get back on the subject, definitely try to get rid of the mayo and other condiments, as well as the greasy stuff. George Foreman grill is awesome. Portion-sizing is really what gets us all in trouble. Use smaller plates at home to make it look like you are eating more. Trick yourself. Put the fork down between bites, don't shovel. Wait 20 mins after dinner to let your food digest before getting second helpings. Don't overeat!! Start a routine workout. Hell, just get out and walk. Anything is better than nothing.

Now if I could just "make" time to excerise...

I've started drinking Diet Mt. Dew here recently and I'm hooked. 0 Calories and only 50mg Sodium. 0 Carb 0 Sugar 0 Fat.

Exercising isn't necessarily a workout or going to the gym. Take the stairs instead of an elevator/escalator. Walk to the mailbox instead of stopping at the end of the driveway when you get home. That's what I've been doing. I have a brand new membership to the Y and I've only used it for like 3 weeks b/c of lack of time.

Everyone says that lack of time keeps them from going to the gym. In reality, it takes an 30min to an hour to get a really good workout. I work 40 hrs a week and have a 16 hr semester and still find time to go to the gym. I do think diet is more important than excercise but they both play a critical role. There is always time to work out.

I wish this were the case, I really do.
I LOVE to lift weight, did it religiously for 15 years, today there is no time. 40? I wish. I work 60-70 hours a week and commute 1 hour each way. Add in 6 hours for sleep and 1 hour to get dressed cleaned up and 1 hour in the evening for dinner and a few mins with kids and it starts looking like:
65 (work average)
10 (commute)
30 (sleep)
10 (morning and evening)
_____________
115 hours spent out of a total of 120 hours (I am only talking M-F here) so on that 70 hour work week there is literally 0 hours left, on this 65 there are 5 left, that no time allocated for home repair, chores taking out garbage playing with kids going to store for groceries or other necessities etc.

Unfortunately there isnt always time for the gym....

I shake my head everytime I see the fat fawks at work walk right past the staircase to take the elevator up from the first floor the the second floor! There ought to be a scale next to the elevator...over 250lbs, the door won't open. To be PC, you could get a medical overide, etc and get an elevator key, buy jeez, how lazy can you be.

That is totally understandable. I personally don't see how someone works 70 hrs/week and gets anything done at all, let alone extraneous excercise. So my hat's off to you sir.

The people I am talking about are like the people I work with. They work 40 hours a week (at a low-stress 2nd shift job) and then complain of never having time to work out because they just HAVE to sleep until noon. Therein lies the peril of working with lazy bastards.
