And service.

Because of schedules, we don't cook a lot anymore.
So often get bad food, incorrect food, or bad service.

Drive thru KFC on 64 in Morganton. Ordered 10 pc meal, got home, all legs and thighs. Called, know they wouldn't fix it, she said be glad to replace another day. So I ask what about my dinner tonight? same response. bring it back we will fix it. Lady, I am 20 Min's away, so by the time I get back in car, drive there, check it out before I leave, drive home, another hour,............plus cost of gas, same response. we will replace it at another time. GRRRRRRRRRR

Tastee Freeze (now called something else) on 64 Morganton
order two hot dogs to eat on the way to work. Steamed so much could not seperate the wrapper from the bun.

Hardee's anywhere wait in line 10-15 Min's for my order

Wendy's HWY 18 Morganton. Burger so dry it was tasteless,

Hot Dog at Coffee house on HWY 18 Morganton. Hot dog either cooked a long time or just over cooked, very tough to chew

Harbor Inn HWY 18 Morganton, Great food, but unless you want your shrimp and fries all poured together, you have to ask to get them separated

Cook Out Shelby HWY 74
Nastiest hot dog I ever tried. Chili tasted like it had 100 times more chili powder than meat. was also very dry and burnt tasting. Both Leslie and I took one bite. and threw it away

Bo Jangles HWY 74 Shelby.
Ordered a steak Bisc with mao on it, "we can't do that, against company policy" SO all other Bo Jangles are breaking company policy? I can give you packs, I don't want packs, little difficult to put on bisc going down the road. pull off no order

Chic Fillet Morganton exit 104 Same deal with Mao on chic sandwich, the response was more convenient, I ask for who?
I did get it, and sat there till I had it ready to eat, Mao applied, holding up the drive thru

Burger King Icard exit 116 Ordered whopper combo, you know how big the sandwich is, had one tomato the size of a silver dollar and it was the top most piece, all skin

Restaurants everywhere, tomato's are hard, tasteless, a green tomato than has been gassed to make it red.

Golden Corral Hickory exit 125 They have steak, fresh off the grill, but you have to go back a dozen times to get a decent amount???

Waffle house HWY 226 and I40 Marion, ordered a burger, tomato was so soggy, from being cut for days, onion was almost dehydrated for same reason

There are more, just tired of typing

Anyone else have same issues?

stop eating fast food
if it looks like a turd & smells like a turd then it must be a :poop:

MC Donalds
They have this thing about the Speed that they can get you through the drive through.
so if you go there when it is busi and order somthing different or you they have to reload the fry maker the they push you up out of the way and make you wait whil every one else blazes through. I had it take 15min to get my standard order of a #4. there was 6 of us in the parking lot waiting for them to bring out the food.
so the last time this happened when they ask me to pull forward and wait I said "no I will wait here at the window"
you should have seen the look on there face:flipoff2:

Not sure if they have places like this around you, but around here there are meal places where you can go and prepare a bunch of meals yourself at one time, then they package them, you take them home, freeze them, and just put them in the oven when you’re ready to eat. They are AWESOME!!! They have all the ingredients there, so you just pick from their menu what you want, and then throw it together. One nice thing is that you don’t end up buying a whole bottle of one spice that you are only going to use one time. You could easily have a week or two worth of meals done in a relatively short amount of time. Some places will even prepare the meal for you for a fee, then you just stop by and pick it up. We don’t do it all the time, but we do like to have a couple of those meals in the freezer for when we don’t have time to cook. My wife did this right before Easter and actually found a cheap gift certificate on restaurant.com, so we got our Easter meal and about 5 or 6 other meals for a pretty good price (I don’t remember what it was, but I was pleased and I am cheap!)

Problem found, you eat at really shitty places.:flipoff2:

1st problem: you are eating at Shit Holes..

2nd problem: spend 30 mins a week at grocery store and bring food with you on the road.. I bet the 30 minutes you spend at store will save you hrs in drive thrus

3rd problem: if you do go to fast food and they ask you to pull forward; you just say NO. Trust me you will get your food a lot quicker.

And service.
Hardee's anywhere wait in line 10-15 Min's for my order

x100. I eat fast food maybe once every 3 months, but I will never be back to a Hardees, any Hardees. One time I was the only customer inside, no line. Only 2 or 3 in the drive thru. Placed the order, nothing special. They gave me a number and told me to sit down and wait.

I worked at the Chick Fil A in hickory for about 3 years

We were also not allowed to put any condiments on a sandwich, for health concerns.

Trust me, you dont want ANYONE up front touching your food, money is one of the most nasty things anyone can ever touch, no lie.

Fast food...hmmm you gotta think about who works at those places. They don't give a damn. I always check my bag of food before leaving because 9 times out of 10 they screw it up.

You're eating at shitholes...take 5 minutes and cook at home and save lots of $$$$ too. Rule per Leo Getz (sp) "never go to the drive thru, they screw you in the drive thru."
Health too man, come on..didn't you just have some heart issues? I'd be hard pressed to find anything on the menu at the places you've listed that isn't down right unhealthy to eat. I'm sure your Doc would not recommend a bucket of chicken for dinner.

chip.... chip... chip.... I'll come out and say it... Are you trying to get a head start on more heart problems ? I'd like for you to be around for a good bit longer... What you had done is usually a life changing experience for most people..

Food is getting pretty damn $$ but its still much better for you.. Slap a a chicken breast on the grill (or pan cook it)and boil some water for some rice and a vegi.. I can cook that all up in 15min. I coat the chicken with a little olive oil so it doens't burn (or use water in the pan with a cover) and throttle the grill so everything gets done about the same time.. Put some spices on to your liking..

Cook some some pasta and sub in some ground up turkey in the meat sauce.

Go get a cheep tupperware set at the store, when your done cooking dump the rest in a bucket and toss it in the fridge..

If anything keep a log of what it costs to eat out.. I bet its more then you think... I like cooking in general but hate having to cook when I get home after work... We should start a 15min dinner thread and see what else people can do...

Agreed, I am not eating at the best places. And I am not eating the best things for me. Most of this is while away from home(duh, OK on my way to work) I work 12 hour shifts, hour to work hour home. 14 hours. I do take the easy route and stop for something on the way to work. Sub-way anywhere, unless busy seems to get me in and out pretty quick. Bo Jangles in Hickory exit 125 does an awesome job. Mexican restaurants anywhere seem to have great service and food, but Not something I can eat going down the road.
I eat mostly chicken from these places, with an occasional burger, or Hot Dog.
I worked 17 years in fast Food MGT, My point is customer service, and quality food has really been lost.
Private own places tend to have the best food, but, are off the beaten path, esp mine since I travel all interstate.

IF anyone here has ever been diagnosed with Heart Disease, High Cholesterol, High Blood sugar, High blood pressure, please if you have found decent food away from home, and or have a good meal planner ie meals easy to make, please let me know, Both Leslie and I have tried, and just shopping for the right foods is very difficult. Most foods fall somewhere in the bad for me in some way category. We have found the easiest way is to buy what ever and eat the container!

Greg, Mike.I appreciate the concern, only a friend would care enough to call me on it in public forum! LOL and you aren't the only one. Thanks guys

I've dropped close to 40lbs in 5 months by changing what I eat, that's it. Mcdonalds grilled chicken wraps are 220 calories (iirc), I have 2 or 3 with a diet drink. Chikfila has a good grilled samich get it minus the fries and with the fuit and thats a good quick meal. for lunch I hit a local resturant for a grilled chicked salad which has now become "the usual" whern I call in my order. It all about getting a routine down and sticking to it. I allow myself a little less than healthy eating on the weekends, but still don't go wild with it. I feel better, have more energy, have no issues getting up in the morning (I used to love my bed), no more indigestion, all my poos are on time/together and went for a physical a while back and was told I was in the best shape I'd been in for the last 10 years or so. It takes effort and it doesn't happen overnight, just stick to a good diet and slowly you'll really see the benefits unfold. As I approach 40 I've really become concerned about my health, I've had several friends fall victim to health issues that were diet related, I'm just going to do what I can to avoid them myself. good Luck

my dad (who had a few stints put in a few years back and narrowly missed the 'big one') will eat at subway. (you said you eat there) Select one of their regular cold sandwiches and put mustard on it. Or some straight oil/vinigar. Get a foot long and save half in a cooler. Anything on their heatly/heart what ever menu is good.. Just skip all the goober sauces and stuff.. (I usually get green peppers, olives and mustard)

My dad offered me some words of advice. If you do only 1 thing.... stop eating mayo, I've almost completely removed it from my diet. I've switched over to basic el-cheep store brand mustard, fresh pepper from a mini grinder, or texas pete, on everything.. I can make the blandest stuff taste good...

Also, I've cut 99% soda from my diet. I drink water, hell I don't even miss it anymore. Ill still have one from time to time.. At first it might taste 'bad' or 'funny' but give it a week I bet you wont mind after a while.. Wife is mad but I dropped 10# after a month or so and haven't put it back in over 2 years. I sleep better also.. (I still drink my coffee though, gotta have 1 vice)

Chic-fel-a - anything grilled NOT fried, NO MAYO, get mustard and a pickly... Substitue one of their healthy sides, fruit cup or side salad (again watch the dressing)
(FWIW: this is a bad time of year for tomatoes..
Other FF joints - Anything grilled, dump the fried junk/fries and substitute anything else healthy they will let you..

(side project - I've been meaning to try the upsidedown tomato in a 5gal bucket deal, I love fresh maters stores want too much for em..)

Some other non-food related stuff..
Get some regular exercise...
Take a multi- vitamin (I take a store brand)

I don't mean to sound like a know it all, i have just listened to my dad over the last 5 years and have tried to make some changes in my diet where I can..

The one in Greensboro is called Let's Dish. Unf I'm kind of doubtful there's on ine Morgonton... but maybe Hickory if you're in that area anytime soon. But I highly reccomend giving something like thsi a try!

For Mother's Day last year, I bought a 40-meal pack (or something like that) for my wife to go prep and bring home.
She absolutely loved it. The deal is that they are REAL meals, "just like mom would serve", virtually prepped and ready to go. While there, you go ahead and seperate out the portions, ready to freeze. It might be like 5 different "meals", but each will be say 4 -6 big servings, all can be split up individually, so you can work off of it for about a month!

So each night, you just pull out your two portions, one for you and Leslie, pop it into the oven, and you're done. It really is intended exactly for folks like you whom have limited time/energy/yearn for prepping your own food every time.

Downside is, it's a lot of money up front - but if you add it all up, it's only a fraction more than the cost of going and buying all the same stuff on your own anyway. It's definitelty less than the total of KFC all the time, and MUCH better for you.

We've been doing the same thing for months now from a place in W-S. While it's nothing you couldn't do yourself, having someone else clean up the prep mess and provide the exact size containers needed is a big plus. For us, it's cheaper than going to the store... no need to buy more of something than you'll use (so no spoilage/waste).

We get both the the stores pre-packaged meals and occasionally make our own. All meals can be made to fit YOUR dietary requirements. We put 1 of the frozen entrees in the fridge a few days out, throw it in the oven, when you get home and usually in 30 minutes you're ready to eat.

I love grilled food and use ours ALOT. For time and convenience we will cook enough food for 3 days or so on the grill and just throw it in the microwave when needed. Sure its not as good as the first time but its still quicker, cheaper and healthier-we both work 12hr shifts. If you're chopping up some chicken to throw in a wrap with some lowfat cheese it doesn't matter if its fresh off the grill or not. Eating dinner at 9pm gets old quick, and I'm sure you've had to do that more than once.

I like the idea of the go to place to get the packaged meals. As far as I know, there isn't anything like that here. wish there was. I like grilled chicken, but buying it out is always so iffy. Seems like they either cook it to order, or it's been sitting so long it's like chewing leather.
fruit I love, but, the sugars. Pasta, I love, turns to sugar, potatoes I love, same thing. Carrots, Tomatoes, seems every diet book I look at shows a lot more food items bad for you than is good for you.
I have cut out sugar, only use equal or splenda, Soft drinks in the form of diet Sundrop only.
2% milk, coffee
Very lightly salted popcorn is my usual snack.
Sandwiches are difficult at home to, healthy wise, seems the only good for me bread I like is the white/wheat, and it is not a good seller, it usually is hard and not very tasty.

Mike I have been looking at the topsytervy tomatoe plant thing too! seems kewl! If I can steal some hanging basket/windchime space from Leslie

Vegan food. Might be a little extreme for your current tastes, but trust me, most of this stuff isn't too bad.

And get this, there's a company that ships prepackaged meals nationwide and they are headquartered in Morganton. :bounce2:

http://www.hungry-vegan.com/ They list menus, prices and the local contact #. Just throwing it out there as an option. I eat a lot of vegan and vegetarian meals that my wife cooks. Good stuff. I changed my diet drastically after health problems as well.

Well, this is what I am working on personally, which is the "biggest loser" diet from the tv show.

http://www.webmd.com/diet/features/biggest-loser-diet

I think the biggest issue is your 12 hour work shift and to/from, so you are trying to hurry up and head out and too tired to really grill out by the time you get home. That is a tough problem and nothing but spending time or money will fix that.

Money: Vacuum Sealed Meals came up here a while back and basically you take your evening meals and put in a portion and seal it up for later. Might be a good plan for your lunches.

To / From work: Time is the main issue here, wanting to jog out the door and keep rolling. But trust me 5 minutes in the kitchen vs drive thru is MUCH healthier.

Bagels with fat free cream cheese is not bad when you look at total calories / fat content and FIBER, etc. Yes carbs too count but just left the Endo doc with my wife (diabetic) and you would be surprised at the carbs they say to eat.

The difference is eating the right foods... so for her (and me too) instead of greasy sausage/biscuit, oatmeal, yogurt (look for the light / breyers with lower sugar AND fat), and omelets made with eggbeaters (egg whites) and veggies.

Want to heat something up, made something "good" and throw it on the manifold!! How many times you heard/seen that on the trail too...

SO...fast foods... Subway if you are careful, GRILLED chicken only (or better yet bring your own)

Heck we all KNOW what to eat we just choose to ignore it.

Example, Green Beans + Tomato + Carrots for supper = 1 serving of corn (or peas) That is what the nutrionist told me 3 hours ago...

Keep that heart healthly bro...
Sam (4 fingers pointing back at myself here) H

one thing to think of, stop eating fast food. one thing to think about. if it doesnt run, walk, fly, swim, or grow from the earth, dont eat it!

funny, as I sit here and eat my Sammies from Quiznos an dread this, I have to laugh for 2 reasons:

1. Seems no matter where we go, my wife has the worst luck on getting food the way she ordered. I gave up long ago and just eat what's in front of me so long as it's fully cooked.

2. this Quiznos lunch I just finished eating: I ordered the sandwiches, and at the condiment area where they load up the tomatoes, lettuce, etc. I told the lady "Can you also put some cilantro on there." Open my sandwich just now and that's all she put on it. oh and one of the two sandwiches had 1 (ONE) little sprig of cilantro.

Dave, where do you go here in town? The drive from Lewisville to G-boro was a little extreme to do on a regular basis.
