TJ Parasitic Draw

Just an update to this problem.....

Went through everything listed in the first couple of posts, with no further luck.

The battery (which is my second optima) was charged fully before my tests, so I did what someone mentioned and left it unhooked for awhile (5 days), and check the battery's voltage, which appeared to have decreased slightly from sitting ( initial reading was 12.8 then down to roughly 11.5 in 5 days). For ruling out purposes I put the original battery that I had in the jeep when it was new (2001) that I had laying on a milk crate. I bolted it in and it fired the Jeep right up (hadn't been used since the install of the first Optima almost a year and a half ago). I have since left all the connections intact and with the jeep sitting for over two weeks without any slow starting or difficulty cranking noted. With me not having any problems for a decent length of time with the 2nd Optima, I just did not think of looking very hard in that direction due to its sudden onset of problems (figured I left the key on or a switch on to cause the initial battery drain). The battery took the charge and held good readings for a day or so, and then I was off to parasitic drain checks.....

So far no problems, but it's hard to say (and believe) that I can trust a 6 year old battery better than I can the $180.00 Optima ....

Time will tell, but that is mainly why I waited so long to post back up, just to make sure.

Bummer.. I hear about problem Optimas alot, I guess I got a really good one.

I still haven't found the problem on mine...

but, it is running an Optima...

any chance you'd take your Optima by a AutoZone, etc and have them test it to see if it comes back as "bad"?

i chased this very problem last night on a saturn with a lot of stereo in it. the morons at Vato zone said his alternator would not keep up. he was charging at 13.98 with everythin on and hittin hard.

I charged and retested his battery (red top 3 mos old) and it tested well.(midtronics high dollar tester) I am confident this is the problem and he is getting a free replacement today.

The parts people at Mickey Mouse Inc. barely know how to use their own equipment. you just cant trust their "diagnosis".
 
Yeah, don't go to Autozone to get your battery tested. They tested mine a couple of times and said it was good but it obviously was not since it would drain down when unhooked from the jeep. Talked to the manager and got a free battery. He even tried to give me some $hit.
 
I have a Red Top that I bought in 1997 (10 years) and still use it occasionally to power a DC/AC transformer to run the TV in case of power outages. I keep in on a solar charger the rest of the time. I took it out of my 2003 Rubi to install a Yellow Top. My Rubi is not a daliy driver and is used once a month for rock climbing. It has never failed to start right up when I need to. I think there is a problem some where in the system.
