Tow Rig prep: 2011 Suburban

For reference, here is where I usually load the bronco to on the trailer and how the load sits on the suburban. I am worried if I lift the front of the trailer much, the ramps on the back will end up scraping the ground. Suburban has a 2” leveling block on the front to clear larger tires. Stock height in the rear.

Just eyeballing based on the pictures, the bronco is definitely far enough forward and might could move back a little

That’s what I felt, it almost felt too far forward honestly, but when I moved it back 6” I had a noticeable sway above 60 mph.

Yeah, you need one with leaves in the back.
The suburban replaced an Excursion that my wife drove for over 11 years. I was used to that thing and never really had to worry about loading it. The suburban does everything better except for truck stuff, that's where the excursion excelled. I do think a 2500 would be the best of both worlds though.

I guess I should have listened to the damn thread....

There’s a couple 2500 suburban for sale nearby, getting the wife on board with a baby on the way is difficult though lol

WD hitch was a bust, they advertise it as a 7-1/2 drop but it was more like 2, not nearly enough and woul overload the trailer springs with how high the tongue was on the back of the suburban. So probably going to return it and order the Hd springs in the meantime,

He’s got 6l money lol 😂 4l80 is a solid trans but I’m sure there is advantages
I’ve just had plenty of people try to scare me about the 6l in my 1500 suburban haha. So figured finding a 6.0/4l80 was a pretty good find.

Same for my Denali. But fingers crossed. All the technology and more gears in trans and the same or worse fuel mileage! Go figure. That 6.2 rips over a 6.0 though

I’m just sayin if you’re gonna go for that ugly body style might as well get the 6 speed. Otherwise the gmt800 Would be my preference.

Man driving a Denali and wanna talk about money :flipoff2:

I guess I grew up when they were the new trucks through most of my time getting into cars in high school and college, so they never looked terrible to me, my cracked dash rubs me the wrong way but they never looked bad lol. If the 6 speed is stronger, hey I’ll look for one with it. Just always was told the 4l80 was the way to go for towing.

Gimme the bronco, wheel the current suburban and bam your good to go.

Maybe I missed it but has anybody recommended a weight distributing hitch yet? I pulled a 7k lb truck behind a 1500 suburban from Florida back to nc with one.

I went to hook one up but the stock hitch on the suburban is too high to utilize it with my trailer. To lift the suburban back to ride height it has the front of the trailer like 6-8 inches over level. I would have to buy a WD drop hitch (another $150-200) which wasn’t in the budget for this trip.

Getting the trailers setup for Thursday. Wish I got to tow with the f-350 haha. It hasn’t towed anything in a few years and the trailer has just sat in the back of my friends house so checking over the tires and everything today and doing a test tow to class tonight to make sure it will be good for the trip Thursday.
