Bought new wheels and tires with new tpms sensors from tirerack. I thought it would relearn the tpms sensors automagically, but it didn’t. I’ve seen online how to put the truck in relearn mode, then deflate the left front tire, and so on. But the truck says relearn unsuccessful.
I see there are tools you can buy on amazon that claim it can make it learn the new sensors.

Anybody have any experience with these tools?

I have an Autel TS508WF, bought on eBay new/open box. Comes with lifetime updates. Tool is easy to use and has worked on every vehicle I tried it on. I have updated it twice in the last three years and now it works with more vehicles (new model years). Autel is well respected in this space, that tool is a professional grade unit for not terrible money. Durable construction, rubberized surround. If you can get one with the case that is a nice added benefit but mine lives in the top drawer in my tool cart so I did not need one.

You should be able to download Forscan for cheap or free and buy a $10-20 OBD2 adapter and do everything you ever want to that truck. Turn off lights and chimes, change tire size or gearing programming, change dealer level settings, even program keys.

I have the OBDLinkEX adapter if you prefer to borrow one, but it also works fine with the cheap adapters on Amazon.

They have it blocked now. PayPal won’t let you pay a Russian company.

Used this on my 2018 Tahoe last month for new TPMS’s. Worked perfectly!
Thanks, I ordered a similar one. $12 is worth a shot.

I think I have that adapter in the garage somewhere. I need to find it.

Well, I ordered a cheap on from amazon and it arrived tonight. Tried it and it didn’t work. But, it didn’t come with any instructions so I had no idea if I should hold the button down or just press it and no idea where to hold it in relation to the valve stem. Found a video on youtube of one that looked similar. I did what that video and did and it worked!

Edit: it's the same one @Subzilla posted.

Yeah, the owners manual for my truck tells you one way to put it in relearn mode. The youtube video I watched had a different method.
kind of reminded me of this:

Well... What did the video say? Link?
Thanks

My tire guy just mounted a new one for me today. Each sensor has to be programmed for the particular model, then SOME models self learn, others need OBD plug to start the learning.

He can do yours for you but you'd need to drive to wallburg

That really depends on the type of sensor used. Some shops purchase universal sensors which do require their own programming and initialization in addition to vehicle programming. Other shops stock the specific sensors for certain types of vehicles. When I replace sensors on our own vehicles I purchase the ones that are specific to the vehicles and just program the vehicle without having the added steps to initialize a sensor. My Autel tool has a "pocket" at the top to accept a universal sensor for programming but I have never used it.
