Hey everyone, I just joined the site today because I couldn't find much help on Google searches and was hoping people here might give some guidance. I'm a second-time JKU owner (currently 2015 sport) and am trying to find some places around Charlotte to take my wife and kids on some trails. Unfortunately, the kids are still in car seats and the wife has to warm up to getting adventurous, so I'm just looking for scenic trails that get me off a paved road and enjoying the outdoors a bit.

I've heard Uwharrie has a lot, but not having been there before, I want to make sure it's not just trails that will really require the 4x4 being put to use. I'll get there, but trying to start off with baby steps!

Any insight on good places to go for a few hours on the weekend would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks. PittJKU

URE is great for leaf looking! You can ride the dirt roads and just get acquainted with the place and eat a little trail dust. I'm sure some guys will chime in but URE can be as mild as you want it to be and just scenic relaxation.

LOTS of trails a stock JKU can handle. Avoid the weekends if you can. Check out the green trails on here, but I'd advise doing so with another friend who's been there (I typically never wheel alone without another vehicle there JIC) on a mon-fri sometime.

It's a great place to get off the beaten path during the week.

Yep you can pretty much make ure what you want it to be. Before I had my jk, I ran around there on a stock pickup. Get up with uortc and learn just what your vehicle is capable before you get to crazy with mods.

If you do F Book look up Jeepers United. Lots of folks from the general Charlotte area. Good folks, quite a few spend a lot of time at URE and I'm sure they wouldn't mind showing you the ropes.

Just remember if it's not a road and you don't have permission from the land owner it's illegal. The only legal place around Charlotte that I know of is URE.

Thank you guys, I do appreciate it!

For these clubs you're recommending, are they good with young kids participating in the rides? I'm really looking forward to having my boys experience this stuff at a young age!

CORE is a family oriented as are most clubs on this board. Look at our website as linked above. We have a dinner on May 5 if you want to come out and meet the group.

I am very interested in joining the group,

There is a new place in Jefferson, SC just south of you guys. It's called Broken Nut. Very tame private park right now with plans to add stuff to appeal to the harder wheeler's too.. About 300 acres with it possible to grow to 500 in the future. I'd be up for meeting you guys there. I've only been once myself.
