Transmission flush

Tranny Problems

Alright so i was driving the other day in my 1990 pathfinder 4x4 and the a/t oil temp light came on. It was driving fine still. Now today, i started my car, and it no longer goes into reverse and feels like its not changing gears properly. Now is this a fluid problem? Like the pump is clogged? Or bad? Or something? This would cause almost like non-responsive gears due to lack of fluid to the tranny correct? The transmission was just rebuilt not to long ago, so i doubt its the tranny itself.

Please help...

Joey

Posting a dozen threads on the same topic won't get you help, the 2 threads have been merged together.

You seem to have several threads going on this same topic, I'm not going to dig for them, I the future, ask questions in the existing thread, don't start a new one if the topic is the same ( transmission)

Management

If the trans is not working a flush wont help go to a trans shop and get a rebuild quote. If you do find someone that will flush it, it will just make it worse.

is it low on fluid?

well if it was just rebuilt #1 should be under warranty #2 a line may be loose or a fitting leaking thats let it lose fluid. A tranny low on fluid, would do exacty what you are seeing...

wow...

Okay, First anytime you check transmission fluid the car should be running.

Crank up your Pathfinder, Go through all the gears on the shifter and stop in each one, then place it back in Park.

With the car idling check the fluid.
It will have a dipstick like the oil.
The fluid on this stick should be red. Also the dipstick should be the farther back of the two. (Front being oil)

A flush will not get rid of a tranny problem, it will flush your wallet tho.

If its burnt then you need a rebuild, pretty simple.

I wouldn't waste anymore money on changing the fluid or filter

when i put in in reverse, it almost feels as if the rear brakes are locked. Anyone hear of that? Like it will go in reverse only if i push the gas pretty hard.. it goes in all other gears properly. Its odd

Why dont you take it back to where you had it built?

No offense, but if you cant figure out how to check the fluid there is no way in hell you can swap a tranny.

nah i knew how to check the dipstick, but i didnt know if there was a certain way, and there was. I have rebuilt cars and engines before, but only dodge. this is my first time working on a foreign car. I rebuilt a 440 six pack and the 3 speed tranny to go with it. Just never have done a foreign car.

Step 1 Remove transmisson and transfercase
Step 2 Install new transmission and transfercase

Or
Step 1 Drop truck off at shop
Step 2 Pick up truck and leave money at shop

Swapping a transmission is really not much different on foreign cars. The above directions pretty much nail it. what exactly do you need to know? You could always pick up a repair manual for your vehicle if you're really stumped
