TSL's or IROKS?

I figured we have had this topic before but I am trying to figure out if I want to spend the extra money on some Iroks this time.I have an SASed 94 yota pickup and have been running 36x12.50 radial TSL's but thinking about getting some 36x13.50 Radial Iroks. My TSL's just are not that wide, want something with more meat. What is better overall rocks and highway driving?

The Iroks will not last as long on the road but will do alittle better on the rocks.

The IROK will surely be wider! They have a tendency to mush out over time and get mucho wider than from the factory.

Your 'overall' question is a tricky one....the IROK's are better on the rocks for sure, but they'll wear faster than the TSL's on the road, so your call.

I think a grooved TSL might be a good suggestion for you

IMO Iroks ride much better on the road they just dont last long. They do awesome on the rocks but not as good in the mud as a tsl. I have bias irok 36/13.5 on my tj and i will buy them over and over again. Why do you want radials? Just wondering.

I wont waste my $ on IROKs again. Cut WAAAY too easy and go away after a year or two. Back to good old TSL's. Have them pad balanced and go have fun. And worst of all no real side lugs!

Last week I traded my 39.5x13.50 Iroks for a set of grooved38.5x14.50 TSL SXs. The TSLs are noticeably smaller yet seem about the same width maybe just slightly smaller by looks. The TSLs ride better, and peform better all around. The SXs even out perform the Iroks in loose sand around here. Even one says the Iroks work better on rock but I can't say since I haven't hit the rocks yet but for every other type of traction the SXs win hands down. The sidewalls seem better also. Irok's will wear fast on the street also since the compound is softer than the SX. I ran a TSL radial also and it was a somewhat skinny. Maybe try just switching from a radial to a regular bias tsl since they seem to run bigger anyway

If your going to be rock crawling Iroks!!

Let me rephrase, tsl's will last longer and are better even if it's and offroad only rig, I don't know why people think Iroks are so good, if you have the time and money you should try them both in all situations and decide for yourself, but I feel like you will choose the tsl's in the long run. Don't get me wrong if I was to find A good deal on Iroks I guess I would run them, but If you have A choice go with tsl's grooved or not. Plus you are on the east coast, so you will haft to deal with elements other than rocks

Have you owned them all? did you actually wheel them at all (other than in the backyard or at someplace like URE).

I have run iroks, tsls, and the sxs (the ones that JoshC are running now) and the iroks are way better offroad in pretty much any situation other than mucky mud. They are stickier, softer, and flex better than both the tsl and sx. Sure the SX is strong and will last longer, but you sacrifice the grip to gain that strength and longevity. I ran uncut TSLs (38s) at harlan and was very dissappointed to say the least. I was happy with a set of grooved SXs (38.5s) but i wanted more stick. Iroks (39.5) were next (i had a set of 36 Iroks before the TSLs). There are situations that each tire performs in...but in my experiences the iroks have out performed the sxs and tsls in rock wheeling.

Tires

Why? We had identical toyotas attemping the same obstacles on three different trips. The guy who had the TSLs noticed how the other toyotas were climing /going over the obstacles much easyer than he! But, I agree the TSLs will last much longer on road.Iroks just stick to rocks a little better. One other werid occurrence, was that he would lose a bead (lose air)on his TSLs very easy ,maybe stiffer side wall?He even changed to bead locks and then blew bead on inside of wheels! This was on two different sets of wheels, even with 12psi.

Well I do drive it back and forth from base to home down 40 at 70-75 mph.My TSL's right now have been great with wear but there just too skinny. The reason I was going with some IROKS is just because they are a good deal right now and are 13.50's.I need a radial because I drive it on the road veryday.

My 36x12.50x16 Radial TSL's are only like 9" across!

Have I wheeled somewere besides my backyard? I am glad it is so easy to talk:poop: to people on here, I am tired of it. Anytime

One more vote for TSL's....I like mine okay

On a side note: I saw some 37" creepy crawlers perform this past weekend and would ditch interco's and every other brand if I could afford a set!

Must be nice!:huggy: You get the 44 sorted out?
I hope so.:shaking: Spool, gears and bearing kit are due in tomorrow! Welded up the old carrier JIC. Thanks for the 411 dude.See ya Saturday!Later....Neckdude

TSL's.

I've never ran IROKs and you'll never catch me with a set. For all you people defending them saying/implying "they're the best tire in the rocks"- a BFG AT would be just as good a tire in dry rocks. I know of people on this board that have ran them and will be glad to tell you it won't happen again. ;)

Good luck and report back.
