Went this weekend with some friends and had a blast! I'm not really one for getting in any river or any body of water that I can't see the bottom of.

was about 7 of us with two coolers full of beer and I had a blast. took us about 4 hours to get all the way down the river with a couple stops to get out and drink and eat.

Was funny though, there was a group in front us that would leave us all each a jello shot at each sand barge. So we would stop and have those.

All in all for 10 bucks a person plus a tube for each cooler ($5) it was well worth it.

Anyone ever think about doing it just to relax and kinda get away and see a bunch of drunk people trying to float down a river is priceless.

I love a good float in a tube. Sucks you can't have alcohol on the green river anymore, I haven't been since they stopped it, lol.

It was alot of fun, but I realized that I should have brought some flip flops....some of those rocks are jagged and some some so slippery when trying to stand up on some of them after you've had a few.

..... man I miss being able to walk down to the New.... Never tubed it, but paddled a canoe down quite a few times

We were talking about taking the kids tubing or something. Not sure where yet.
Not sure about deep muddy water, or roaring rapids either.
Ella is only 3 but knows her way around the pool pretty good.
Maycee is 9 and can swim like Michael Phelps...

Any ideas other than the Lazy Rivers at the beach motels?

I love tubing and just wading the rivers with my bow or riding in a Jon boat or just sitting beside one watching the water roll by(goes into Bubba Gump type talk about rivers) I love them....actually have plans for my ashes to be spread in the Cape Fear below Buckhorn dam(or the area if dam is removed) some of the best times in my life and biggest fish been had down there (hmmmm maybe those two have something in common).

We go tubing pretty regularly during the summer... The dan has been low all season unfortunately but we still went 3-4 times.
I have also tubed the new... I like the New river a lot better than the Dirty Dan.
All that being said, in the earlier months we take our tubes and go float in Belews, some of us show up on boats, some on jet skis, some just bring tubes and we make a party of it.
Always a good time.

I used to tube it or kayak it all the time. I'm assuming you were on the section just north of Hanging Rock? If so, did you do the mini-cliff jump?

Forgot to mention....I didn't remember this...but apparently Duke Energy had some sort of coal ash spill or something into the Dan? One of the guys asked our driver about it and it didn't sound too sure about the cleanliness (spelling?) of the water.....which wasn't very comforting right before Im supposed to get in....I also wish they would build some sort of sand barge down at the bottom of the steps when you get in...stepping on loose jagged logs trying to get in your tube doesn't sound like the safest thing to do.

I just can't take it anymore. I thought it was a fluke at first. Why do you want them to build one of these in a nice river:

I was up in Bryson City about 4 years ago riding the train and doing a little hiking, and saw some people tubing on Deep Creek. There were some little kids doing it, but I'm not sure how old they were. My boy will turn 4 in mid-Nov, so I'm thinking the same thing you are about when he could possibly go.

ok....sanded river banks....that any better?
It's sand bar, that's all. I just thought it was funny because apparently there is such a thing as a sand barge too. I don't even care if you spell it "sand bar" or "sandbar", or even "sand-bar". :D

Done the dan on a tube several years ago. Water was way low and we walked majority of it. Haven't been back since. Been canoeing the new river for the past few years and I love it. 40.00 for a canoe for 2 people, holds a good size cooler perfectly, and my lady rides with me.

Deep creek is fun, most places have smaller tubes for little kids. Just be ready to carry his tube for him, you can go as long as you like you pick tubes up at a couple different places on your way in and take them back on the way out. Pack some burgers there is a picnic area and camping to I believe.

Anyone know of a place like this near North Wilkesboro? Might be going up there soon and this would be fun for the family
