URE 11-12-2005

I remember he and his lady trying to go up Daniel with a winch on the bypass...Then someone told us that the guy was snockered....so we decided to let him figure the problem out for himself....

We as a wheeling community really need to stand up against this kind of thing. I'm not sure that there is a faster way to have our public lands closed, than if someone were to get drunk and kill themselves or someone else while wheelin'!....Think of how the media would handle that!

that is the truth, thinking of our wheelin trails, and campin trips gone due to a few people's ignorance makes me sick. keep the beer at the campsite, or next time ur lady's ridin hoime with me...

Something else that can and will spoil the fun. I camped off Mocasin Cr Rd, great spot for a truck and trailer. Man if there wasn't a hundred little piles of crap and t.p. spread around the woods there. Freakin' disgusting and hazardous waste, makes for a nasty clean up/work day to boot. URE warned about that crap (pun intended) last year. WTF over!? Bury the crap and the paper with it!

good point Rick

but for those that weren't there we're gonna need pics of said lady friend to validate what you guys are saying...:D

I'll be sure to accomidate said request on the next outing!

ya it sucks when people are irresponsible. last year we ran into a guy passed out face down on the trial next to his 4wheeler. we didnt really know what had happend until we finally got him to wake up. all he had in his cooler was GIN. people need to learn to keep it at the campsite. or at home. it would be a shame if a drunk fawker hurt his self or even worse someones kid who was out their with their family.

So, we have all been talking, what is the next step? What can we do to get these yahoo's off our trails? Report them? To who, when? I would love to see them get more then just a slap on the wrist. Are there laws in place that keep people like this out of the woods.

Case in point: Back in MD one evening, Sitting a the Airport cleaning my Dad's plane. A guy landed his plane on the street that runs parrell to the runway. On the outside of the airport fence! They guy fell out of his plane, we all thought heart attack or something like that. The plane was still running and finally stalled in a corn field! The guy was passsed out drunk!! When the cops finally showed up. they could not do anything but get him for drunk in public. Because there was no law on the books about drinking and flying. And the cops did not see him flying the plane. I think he got a small fine and some community service.

I can't help the fact that I feel pretty hipricitical. . . I almost always have beer with me on trips, but never on the trail and never in the Jeep while on the trail.

I mean come on nothing beats sitting around a fire at the end of a good day of wheeling recapping the day with some anitfreeze?

Keep us posted on what to do and when to do it. If we do report the loosers will we get the same run around about not witnessing it themselves?

I want to know.

Nothing steams my bean more than people like ‘Silver-Yoda-Guy’ being out there on the trails, endangering themselves and others – and most especially, our use of the trails themselves! ---I’m concerned that it’s really only a matter of time before some jerk with a bottle of liquid courage goes and does something so stupid, so dangerous, or so downright deadly that they completely ruin it for the rest of us.

In Uwharrie, I guess I’ve been pretty lucky… so far I’ve never run into anyone out there on the trails that appeared to be so buzzed that they could have been considered a true danger to anyone (although I have smelled alcohol on the breath of a few individuals – and that alone didn’t sit well with me) – Plus, we usually have Janet Becker along with us on at least one of our runs whenever we’re there… so, on those occasions, if we had ever encountered a ‘Silver-Yoda-Guy’, I’m sure she would have been on them like ALL HELL (or, if need-be, she would have radioed the Ranger).

But for anyone who might try to handle that sort of situation without an employee of the Forestry Service along with them – like noted above – trying to tell a drunk the err of their ways can be extremely tricky… even dangerous! – And typically, it’s about as effective as greasing a joint that has no Zerk fitting… it can get very messy, very quickly.

[ -snip- ]

I want to know.

I’d like to know the official protocols as well.

Is there a CB channel that the Ranger(s) monitor? --- If not, shouldn’t there be?
(Just a thought)

Cheers!
