URE 4x4cross OFFICIAL THREAD. - May 9-11

I hope that I dont speak ahead of myself, but Dylan and myself went out today and we ran the course numerous times and observed different class rigs on it. There was a lot of thought put into who was to run what line. What we came up with was crossing INTO the rut side from the the left. That way you walk right over and you end up past the big ledge. We are worried about running all the way to the top on the left side as you can be sucked off the course. The crisscross is hardly a challenge for the stockers. They dont want to cause stucks or breakages, they want you to run and have fun. BTW, if it all works out, I gots the Trail Assistance duty at that spot= winch spooled out if ya need it. The hook will be RIGHT THERE on a cone, your spotter just needs to hook it up.

Huh? I'm confused. So are you talking about the "bypass" or something else? Or is it the main trail part and at the mini ledge (now surpassing Daniel's ledge) the person should take the left side instead of the right side of the mini-ledge.:confused:

Im in B class give us the ledge, I got a winch. That will give us more equality amoung racers. We need something exciting since we cant watch the rock crawl

There is the main trail, with the rut leading to the ledge, and also a bypass to the left. The baypass is really eaten away (away, as in eroded and no protection to sliding off trail if its wet) and pushes the stockers we saw today down the hill to the left, just due to camber. What did work, was taking the baypass till the main trail comes out of the rut and past the ledge. At that point, its just before a tree. Thats where the stockers will more than likely be crossing from the left (bypass) to the right (main trail). That puts them on solid ground and easy footing to continue on. They come in right after the big shear ledge= no problem. The other reason is that the assist vehicle will be at the top of the bypass, in a good spot to not have to move much to pull up folks.

A class will not do the ''ledge'' OR the ''full left bypass.
Instead, they will go up the left bypass.BUT...BEFORE...you get to the top(which is where gravity starts working against ya) just before the top, you will go in between the ledge and the bypass. Its hard too explain, but it's the best way...trust me..we have thought about it enough. It will work perfectly, just follow the tape.:driver:

1- any suggestions on the best place to camp for a non-racer?

2- how do i reserve a tent site, do i need to?

3- I was going to bring my yamaha rhino, until i heard i couldnt bring it on the firetrails... Do the fire roads take you everywhere you would want to go? If they do is a bicycle worth bringing?

4- any other general information for us camper/spectators?

1) you can camp on the trails for free - first come first serve or get a site at the festivities

2) If you want to get a site at the festivities go to www.americanwheeler.com and follow the links

3) If you camp on the trails, you can ride your ATV anywhere on them, just not on the gravel road - so stay on Dickey Bell, Daniel, smaller loop of Rocky Mount or Sawmill and you'll be close to the race loop on Rocky Mount. Or bring your bike.

4) Depending on the drought conditions depends on if you can have a campfire on the trails. Trails can be noisy at night depending on the night traffic. I think anywhere this weekend will be noisy. If you are trailering then you can only get to certain places on the trail (duh). I'm sure others can give some advice also. Oh, there are two outhouses in the double parking lot but the rest are at the campgrounds. :poop:

1- i know the campsites at the festival are near bathrooms and whatnot, but what else is there that would make me want to stay there v.s. in the woods?

2- Once you pay $40 dollars for a weekend pass, what happens? do we get physical passes? whats to keep the people who haven't payed from doing the same stuff as the ones who have?

3- which camp is the festival at?

4- Im planning on bringing some of my own chow, but is food going to be stupidly expensive?

5- And one more, is it worth it to bring some fishing rods for the spare time?

RIght or left of tree when running the bypass. Easy line looked like it was to the left while hugging the tree with the passenger door. A little further left got you into some more new rocks.

Aim for the tree then turn just enuff to miss it. Thats my line thru there on 32's.

Matt

You racing Mike ?

Are camp sites set aside for racers? If so how do you know which site is yours, and can two racers request to be next to each other?

The photographer of this picture is standing in the ''A'' class line. There is a tree behind the photographer. ''A'' class will pass between the tree in the photo and the one not in view.

In other words...not to the left...not where the suky is....but running over the photographer of this pic.

that sounds like even more fun! I get to run over a photographer too? This just keeps getting better.

will the photographer be left "in place" where he/she falls?
Or will the "new" obstacle be removed?.......
Just trying to get some strategy going:flipoff2:

Me (Photographer) will dropping back to a reasonable tire size and racing A-class 107 & 122. Unfortunatly I've already built my rear (Before the new ruling on Traction aiding devices).

If it rains I'm screwed.

The whole 9hr round trip thing is severly limiting my prerunning.

Good question earlier about food, I know there will be a bbq, but what will that include (lunch, dinner (Fri, Sat, Sun))? I have purchased the $40 ticket to the festivities and reserved a RV spot for my camper, now I just need to know how much grub I need to bring along.

I'm thinking that if somebody were to 'wheel in a hotdog stand up to Kodak Rock, they would have no problem recovering their expenses...

Personally, I'm just going to plan to pack in enough food to cover myself for the whoel duration, just so I won't have to rely on other folks...
