Me and a buddy form work are heading down to URE oct. 28th after work to stay the weekend and do some easy wheeling. Neither of us have been before and I was wandering if anyone was planning to be down there or would mind showing us the ropes. We are debating on where to camp while there as well. Any help is appreciated. Thank yall!
Sounds good! Looks like a cool group, I might consider joining, though charlotte is a good hike for me. What gear will we need? I have a cb and a rear recovery point. No winch but I am getting a strap and have a good come a long.
So true like last weekend i took every tool I had 5 quarts of oil 2 gallons of water and some antifreeze, didn't take a spare tire tore a sidewalk in a tsl and rode about another hour on a rim
I still say to use the Excursion as a tow vehicle and not let your buddy take it on the trail (that was from another thread).
On to your rig. My first rig was a ZJ on 31s and I wheeled it all over URE. First thing is you are going to get some body damage, especially on the rockers (the part below the door), and you will probably get some scratches on the outside as well. Have you picked up a radiator support from Kevin Offroad like I suggested in the other thread? If not then you do not have a front tow point to winch (or use your comealong) to get out. In the rear do you have a hitch? If so then that can be used as a rear recovery point. What kind of tires do you have? Do you have a full size spare?
Like @BigClay said tow that zj there with the excursion no need in beating the hell out of two rigs. There is no better feeling than knowing you have that tow rig there when you break something major.
@BigClay I have not gotten the radiator support yet, but I do have a hitch and have a shackle for it in the rear. I am prepared for body damage as I bought the thing to be a toy so thats all good. He wants to take his and ride a few trails, but anything more we are gonna use my rig. I am looking at putting some shackle on the front in the factory location. The bolt holes are there i do believe. By the way, Ill drive my ZJ in, she aint no trailer queen lol.
