Is it open 24 hours we are thinking about heading down Friday night and camping on the trail that night and riding sat. Do we need a pass for 2 days? Where can I get a pass if the outpost is not open? Thanks

Yes, you need a pass for 2 days

Call them (910) 572-3474

Last weekend they closed at 9pm and opened 6am but not sure if that's every day. Hell-a-tious tenderloin biscuits in the AM though

I always get the bacon egg and cheese... but I'm going to have to try the tenderloin now.

And yeah, Outpost closes at 9PM or so, but the fuel pumps run 24/7.

$5/day, $30/yr

Got good chip beef n gravy too! I'm usually a tenderloin on toast with cheese and mayo kinda guy.

How would u get a pass for Friday if we get there after 9? Is there a gate to the trails that closes at s certain time? I've been going down there for 12 or so years but have never camped or got there after dark.

There is no gate that will close. Just have to get up the next morning and go to the outpost.

And hope the ranger doesn't see you going in or BACK out! Not sure what the FINE is for not having a pass, but the little short fat gal is a monster to try and "deal with".

BTW @shawn the tenderloin is as big and thick as a moon pie! You could get a 2nd plain biscuit, trim off the overhang and have 2

Do like all the ghetto cars I see driving around: just get a sheet of paper and write "Pass Applied 4"

Yeah this is where you would rely on the honor system and HOPE you don't get busted in between.

Would think with the Internet being what it is today, you could buy and print one. Seems easy enough.
You could. But remember you are dealing with teh gubbermint, and just be thankful that you can use a credit card and buy at multiple locations.

You won't be dissapointed with the tenderloin.Try on toast with a little mayo.
Damn...I need to get back to URE..it's been too long. I need me some tenderloin on toast!

I've looked online, all I can find is info on the passes, no way to purchase. Thanks for all the good info guys, I guess we will be winging it Friday night and head to get a pass first thing Saturday morning.

Which way do you usually come down? 52/64/109 or 73-74/24-27/109? If you have to drive through Troy, I can probably get you a 2 day pass and you can pick it up Friday night if you're really concerned about it.

All the regular URE folks, this is something that's allowable right? I've truly been in the forest ONCE in the three years I've lived here (for shame I know!).

Yes you can buy someone else a pass if thats what you are asking.

Off the record i have placed money in a seal envlope mark trail pass and the date if i have gotten there late. I was checked the next morning on the way out and the fs person was cool with it after i had explained we got there at midnight. Went to the outpost and paid for both days and all was ok.
