I think this could be a very useful tool if everyone contributes to it. We all use different CB channels to keep in contact with our groups at URE. And it seems channel 4 is one of the most popular ones. The general concept is this:

Billy Joe finds out last minute he has the day off work to head out to URE. He remembers that there will be a couple groups from NC4X4 out there. But by the time he gets there the Outpost is fairly empty. So having checked the URE CB Channel Reference List he knows what channel some of the groups will be on, and gets in contact with a group to ride with.

That is one scenario among many others. Another would be if you are wheeling with multiple groups, you would know which channels to check on for different groups.

I know the norm is to show up, pick a CB Channel and ride. But if we had groups stick to the CB Channel they post up, it would make getting in contact with others on the trails a lot easier.

CURRENT CHANNEL LIST:

Carolina Trail Blazers - Channel 5
WheelinDixie - Channel 5
Trail Jammers Club - Channel 35
CORE - Channel 4
Vertical Excursions - Channel 5
Mecklenburg Mudders - Channels 33/35/39
PlanetIsuzoo - Channels 4/5
Mitsu4x4Wire - Channel 4/5
CNC4x4 - Channel 16
Olde North State Cruisers - Channel 7
AR15.com (Some of them wheel) - Channel 15
NCTTORA - Channel 16

Great idea! But I suggest you contact the club presidents directly and get them to decide on the channel. Some of those guys never get on this forum so you'll need to contact them directly.

Seems like every time we go.. there is traffic on every channel. We usually end up switching 3 times before the trail ride is over with.

Do you guys find this is not the case?

I have only really experienced a lot of chatter on Channel 4. So we end up switching to channel 5 with no issues. Haven't really sat and listened to the other channels. A lot of guys in our group don't have the best CB set ups, so we don't get a lot of chatter that is beyond the area of the trail we are on. And we usually run the less travel trails more than we do Rocky Mnt and Daniel, so less people to possibly encounter/pick up chatter from.

I should mention, it does not sound like anyone in the forest. Sounds like guys sitting at home with their scanners or truck drivers.

I have had this happen at the outpost and on the trails with my squelch down low. But again like I said a lot of the guys I wheel with aren't set up too well, and have enough trouble transmitting/receiving in our little groups. Let alone picking up stuff from any longer distance away.

With the Cobra 29 I just turn the squelch up a little bit and I don't pick up the further out stuff as much.

Vertical Excursions usually uses channel 5 as well ....Sorry for steppin on ya CTB.

I think if we post and get a channel list going it may help with the chatter. I mean if we know for the most part whos on what then its better than just shooting in the dark. Like Eli said this could be a useful tool.

Eli you should edit your first post to add a running list, Once we have an Idea of whos on what it can be sorted. Then there is a list to reference in the future, which is what I think your plan was the whole time.

You hit the nail on the head. List has been started.

Hey guys, I'll mount a dry board to my junk somewhere and I'll be a message center and time, and in which direction a club or group is headed or will return to whatever. In other words, if I can be of any help to those that don't have a CB radio let me know.
In other words, use me if it helps.

Was her name...........never mind

Tom, last time I seen you we were in another state!

CNC4x4 uses CB Channel#16 when at Uwharrie

The CNC4x4 Club tries to use channel 16 when we are at Uwharrie.

This April, would like to post the list at my cart? I can print it up and laminate it and have it in view as a referance for anybody that might have forgotten. Just trying to help.
