Ok I k ow many of you have been to Vegas. I’m headed there for a week at the end of Jan. Will have the wife with me. Going to the International Builder Show with some of my students and fellow faculty.

So, the days will mostly be busy at the show, etc. But, what about evenings and dinners?

Any recommended afternoon/evening activities and good places to eat?

Hoover Dam is already on the list of activities with the students, but what else? May have a free day and certainly the evenings will be available.

Friend of mine from HS lives there and works with BOXABL and also super car systems. Could see if I could link you two up if you’re interested and his schedule permits.

Highjack.....what are you teaching?

Anything like a Skills USA event?

Ever ask an alcoholic if he thinks you should have a drink?

Construction Management at ECU. I’m part of the faculty team of advisors for the student chapter of NAHB. Our students are presenting a proposal for a planned community competition, along with many of mother universities. 🤞

Boxabl would be cool. Would provide another perspective to homes, etc. Would be cool to set up something for all of us. Total of about 15 of us are going from ECU, including 10 construction management students and faculty.

Pm me your contact info and I’ll get it to Cody so you can hopefully link up !

I went to Vegas with the in-laws last summer and had a lot more fun than I expected to. Definitely go to Hoover Dam and take a tour and I'll second Fremont Street. Just walking around the strip was pretty cool - just make sure to bring some comfortable shoes to walk around in.

We also saw Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, Mt Charleston, Grand Canyon (west side), Shania Twain and Blue Man Group. Ate at a place called Yardbird that was good.

@Chris_Keziah and I will also be at that show. He will be walking the show and I’m working the Endura Products booth. Feel free to stop by if you’d like.

As for places to eat, unfortunately that’s going to be tough now. Most of the worth while restaurants are likely fully booked with reservations. My favorite place is FireFly. It’s within walking distance of the convention center.

Nice!

We’ll be walking the show once the ECU students finish up their competition presentation and awards. I think that’s Tuesday IIRC. Aside from that, we’ll be walking the show through the week and take the red eye Thursday night back to Greenville. I will certainly swing by the booth. Send me some contact info and more info on the booth. 🙂

I second Valley of Fire and Red rock canyon. The Bend is totally amazing but it’s 4.5 hours away but again it’s totally worth it. When you visit Hoover Dam don’t forget to remove any portable electronic devices from your backpack before you go through x-ray. They seem to really really hate that I hear.

Go up the space needle at night.
Really cool taking students to see the lights/darkness at night.

Don’t take tourist elevator super long wait time. Take elevators for restaurant/bar. Go to bar, have drinks/Red Bull. There is minimum to be in bar but not much, beats the white tablecloth prices and can still see everything. The whole thing rotates to see all of Vegas.

Red rock canyon is cool.

Hoover Sam as mentioned.

Shelby museum

Old Vegas

Counts cars

All student friendly places.

Even Las Vegas speedway will do a student tour especially to NC students as the owner is same as CMS. The head guy at LVMS went to UNC.

Thanks for the options. I didn’t really realize how close those places were to Vegas. Been to those places, so we are looking for Vegas specific things this trip.

Here is Horseshoe Bend 2 summers ago. The next day we actually floated the river and fished from the dam down to the take out just before the rapids.

The amount of fun I had (and trouble I caused) with Skills USA...... Had a blast. 2014 state champion and placed 12th at nationals in Kansas city.

Fremont St. and anywhere in high traffic areas - wallets, phones, personal belongings in front pockets. Avoid standing in groups around panhandlers/sideshow people. This is the prime target for pickpockets and skimmers.

That said, its been a few years, but there used to be a great Thai place maybe a block or so off of Fremont St. Cant remember the name off the top of my head. Shows can be had at discounted rates depending on your hotel and what they have negotiated. I'll second the space needle at night. Its really cool. Depending on weather, the LVMS thing is cool too as its right at the north end of the runways for Nellis AFB and you can usually catch A10's taking off and landing during training flights.

Have fun, NAHB/IBS was one of the few shows I used to look forward to going to every year.

Giordano’s Deep Dish Pizza is f’n good stuff. Check your ego at the door though. Don’t be afraid to share a pizza with a buddy or two.
