Voter ID. Why is this an issue?

I don't keep up with the news. Hell, I don't even watch it but I don't see the issue with showing your ID at the polls. What am I missing and why is it that the democrats are up in arms over it? I don't have an issue with it at all. I'd be glad to show my ID. I'm not being a smartass. I just want to know what the facts are.

yeah, I don't get it. what's so hard about getting an ID? It's $10 last I looked. If you're legal then I'd say there's no issue.

the straight ticket doesn't bother me but the early voting thing could be a PITA but it's still doable.

Yes you can get an ID card if you dont have a driver's license. I believe it is $5.

This is typical liberal logic -not having to prove who you are before vote is fine. However, if I have to show you an ID then those laws are racist and all you are trying to do is keep the poor people, minorities, etc.. from voting. Check this video out where this guy walks into a precinct and tells them he is AG Eric Holder and they offer up Holder's ballot.

The real story: Democrats cant get dead people to vote if the dead guy has to show his ID. When a common-sense law shows up that hurts a Democratic agenda what do they do? They create controversy and add buzzwords like "racist, poor, etc." to stir up emotions and cloud the real reasons and issue.

" I'll be back faster than you can say furious " I encounterd quite a few democratic supporters outside my polling place, many more than republican, who tried to stop me on my way inside to give me advice on who to vote for and a card w a list of peeps I should vote for. It was pathetic to me the lengths they will go to to infuence peeps and I let several know exactly why I was not voting in their favor. It appeared that most of the staff and voters inside the bldg. were liberals...... speaking of eric holdthis, WTF planet does he live on ? he like many others in washington seem to be completely out of touch w reality in our country today and what's right or wrong, and he seems to have no morals at all.

Yeah Democrats know that if they passed that law, over half the people that vote for them wouldn't be able to. I am amazed at how people even get by without having any type of ID at all. cashing checks and a bank, opening a bank account, establishing credit somehow, I mean, that is just not a way I would want to live.

Not to mention buying beer/cigarettes. You know they are buying beer or cigs or dip or something so they need an ID for that anyway.

My DOG is required to have a photo ID in Mecklenburg County (license for owner to have the dog)

lol still funny though!

I have no problem with showing IDs, that just makes sense.
however I find it really hard to justify things like... specifically banning the option to keep polls open late in the even of long lines, or early voting, or same-day registration. Those just seem like they are there to keep people out.

I agree with you that the ID thing just makes sense... you have to have an ID to do just about anything - open a bank account, buy something with any legal tender other than cash, get medical care at the hospital, you name it. Voting in the next president of (what used to be) the greatest democratic society seems to be logical that some form of identification should be necessary. I think the only reason it isn't is that when the framers of the Constitution were dreaming it up, they figured that if you were here, you fought to be here and deserved to be here. Whether the fight was via a trans-oceanic voyage over several days or weeks, literally fighting the tyranny of an oppressive imperial government army, or having your land over-run by settlers and thus giving up your land to the invaders (as would be the case with American-Indians), you were eligible to vote. Federal and/or state driver's licenses with pictures didn't come about until near the 1920's, so the idea of showing a picture identification would have been so foreign up until that point that it would never have been an issue. I honestly don't know why it hasn't been MORE of an issue until now.

As far as the other issues cited, I personally think that Election Day should be a national holiday (like the worthless Labor Day). Make it so that the majority of businesses are closed that day so that people have no excuse as to why they cannot come out and vote. This should take care of the long lines at the end of the day with everyone rushing to get in after work. Same Day registration sounds like a bad idea to me except for those people who are celebrating their 18th birthday at or around Election Day. Otherwise, it should be important enough for everyone to go register the day they turn 18. The problem is that it's not important enough for most people nowadays until after the fact. It's not difficult to register - and it shouldn't require a translator. Period.

What amazes me is that we are not new to this whole democracy thing... we've been voting since what, 1788?!?!?! We ought to have figured this out by now....

But the poor people can't afford the $10 for an ID card!

I mean, not like we don't already give them cell phones or anything, what's another $10? Not like it actually costs the State $10 for the little 25 cent card anyway.......

I don't get why this is a problem. One of the last times I voted I gave them my last name, didn't ask for ID or EVEN MY FIRST NAME and then handed me a ballot for another Schoch in my precinct. I seriously could have voted and then gone back later and voted again with my correct name.

Just because you can't prove voter fraud doesn't mean it doesn't exist.....

Then just like everyother program out there that is misused....they should offer people who say they can't afford a state ID at a discounted price. lets say $2.50, Or make it part of the requirements to recieve any government assistance program.

Exactly. Hey, I would gladly pay a couple bucks more in taxes to be sure we won't have another mistake in office....

if i were black or a minority, i would be insulted that eric holder or barry obummer or fat ass rev barber thought that i was too dumb to be able to get an ID to vote.

Who doesn't have an ID? Seriously. I think it's a crock, but, one of the arguments that have been put out is that requiring an ID amounts to imposing a "poll tax." Have to give the ID away to avoid that one.

I work for a bank and you wouldn't believe all the people who come in saying they don't have an ID nor have they ever needed one at the bank.

I voted on Saturday too and I was happy at all the signage about having an ID in 2016.

There were also people come out trying to get in after the polls had closed (minorities mostly) trying to get in line before anyone saw them...I made sure that I called them out and let everyone know what they were trying to do.

Again - what's the big fucking deal if the polls need to stay open later to people vote? I'm failing to see why it's a problem.
As important as elections are, I don't understand why we don't bend over backwards to make it possible for everybody to partake.

I agree with polls staying open, I also agree with voter I.D. I do not want a bunch of Illegal aliens dictating how this country should be run by whom. I would think if they knew enough about voting & whom to vote for their own country would be run better & they would have stayed there..

OMG! We went to early voting on Friday since we would be in Florida this week. The number of democrats at the polling place pimping their ideologies was crazy, I just don't get it.

Exactly,if the Dems would have thought of it they would have passed a bill to pay for the ID's for those who cant afford them.My votin precinct checks ID's whether they are required to or not.
