Wagons

What are you vehicle needs other than being a wagon and getting good mileage? I assume you need either room to haul lots of people or average number of people with lots of stuff. @Ron Tahoe comment was tongue in cheek, but have you considered some crossovers or smaller SUVs?

Don't forget the legacy wagons. A bigger and more grown up, but just as badass, version of an WRX wagon.

My issue is dogs and kids. That really sums it up. I have to have room in the back for dogs. Not usually when i go to the coast, but when I travel to my mother and father-in-laws. I have looked at almost everything. We camp, bike, and do a little bit of everything, so the back gets used a lot. I really don't want to consider anything that has a trunk smaller than the V70 I have now.

Subaru Forester? I love wagons. My suggestion is to drive everything. I didn't care for the visibility in the flex. But that's just me. Other love them

You can get a Toyota sienna in AWD if that is a factor. You will probably have trouble finding one used though.

here is my choice VOLVO XC70 lifted

They have both. A TDI Passat wagon would be an excellent choice in my opinion.
I would love a TDI passat wagon. The only ones out there for sale are 04-05 models and they have major balance shaft problems in the motor. I think I am going to look at another Volvo this weekend.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet. My car has 197k miles on it with zero engine trouble (other than a turbo hose at somewhere around 120k miles). The guys on the TDI forums are very quick to point out a few people who had problems and act like its a major trend for every car ever.

+1. After reading tdiclub I steered away from a new TDI BC of the high pressure fuel pump and got a GLI(gas) model. After 20,000 miles I'm kicking myself for not getting the diesel. Still have my 01 alh though I think a lot of people on there over react and the problems are far less than they would lead you to believe.

After being a Jeep guy all of my life, I finally broke down and bought a Toyota!:driver: I decided to get a Sienna Mini van and I picked it up Saturday.

Welcome to the dark side haha. You may not get any cool points cruising the mall, but it will be one of the most practical things you will ever buy.

I did this very same thing a little over a week ago. So far I LOVE my Toyota Sienna.

What about a SAAB 9-2x aero? It's a Subaru WRX wagon in disguise!!! I'd LOVE to have one!!!! They are kind of rare but, they are typically a little cheaper than their Subaru Impreza WRX counterparts since the Subaru guys don't seem to like them as much (and yes, they are available with manual transmission and almost all the performance parts that fit Subarus fit them just the same!!!):

That's one thing that always has bugged me, there simply aren't many cool wagon options in the US, for some reason we have all the crossover SUVs and minivans (neither of which I would EVER drive!!!!) while overseas, there are all sorts of badass sport wagons!!!

That car needs about six more GoPros.

I rented a Focus a couple of weeks ago. Really nice little car. Loud at highway speeds, but IMHO, all the shitbox cars are like that. They cheap out on sound deadening, insulation, glass thickness, etc, because it adds weight and negatively affects CAFE numbers. Nothing that couldn't be fixed with a few hundred bucks of mass-loaded vinyl and a weekend's work, if it really bothered you.
