I am looking for some opinions and suggestions on using clamp on wakeboard tower type speakers on a roll bar. The sound bar in my TJ is coming out some more tube can go in, so I am thinking these speakers might be the way to go. Who all has done it? Got any suggestions? Pics?

I've been thinking about this for my chopped up xj but they all seem way over priced. Do they make pods you can put speakers in or are they all one unit kind of thing?

I've got 6.5s mounted in cans like those above in my jeep. I think they look pretty good and sound great.

8" sonotube, 3/4 mdf and some resin. Cut tube to length, make plugs for the ends, cut speaker hole in one end, coat entire thing with fiberglass resin, sand and paint. Sounds great and it's cheap. I've made dozens of them.

I'd love to see a build thread on this. LOL! Seriously! Any pictures of them being built?

No lol built them back in my car stereo days.... I had a set in my old TJ but let them go with it when I sold it. Works like the old school bass cannons... Except you use a coax speaker instead of a driver.

Google sonotube speaker

I just bought some power acoustics for my yj, waiting on then to be delivered though. As soon as I get them I'll get some pictures

I've built fiberglass kick panel pods a lot like those also. I had some old pics somewhere that I've been looking for now. If I can find them I'll scan them and post Em.... When I say old I'm talking mid to late 90s lol...

It looks like the brackets can be removed, so you could probably replace them with some weld tabs or whatever if you don't want to use the clamps.

I have been waiting a set of these and while I was researching them I found a writeup on some home made ones where they used mini kegs so it's a win win because you have to drink the beer before you can make the speaker pods ;)

If you read some of the reviews you'll see where they break. Some companies will send you aluminum ones to replace them. I personally think it has a lot to do with your suspension. If you have a soft ride you could probably get away with the regular ones that come with it. If you're leaf sprung I'd opt for some metal mounts.

If your in raleigh you can go to car audio in wake forest and get brand new jbl with aluminum cans and mounts for 150 bucks

I'm on my second set of wakeboard speakers and after listening to a friends shockproof/waterproof Bluetooth speaker all wknd on a boat I know that's what I'll be buying next. His was under $100. It got dropped and wet and never skipped a beat.
