Just spent a couple hours and pulled the mid-mount deck from my Kubota B2400. Cleaned it up, checked and lubed bearings, gearbox, PTO, etc. And...put on brand new blades.

Five minutes into a test mow by the pond, I get closer to the edge than usual, and pick up a grapefruit sized rock. Made about 10 rounds under the deck before it got spit out. New blades are chewed up, and now left side blade hits the deck, so maybe bent a spindle.

Should have gone fishing today.

Well that sucks big time! You could have posted this in the garage in the "Things That Suck Ass" thread.

My luck is just after bolting on some fresh blades, I roll out to start mowing, hit the PTO switch, and my deck belt snaps....and it's usually on a weekend when I can't get a belt.

Blades are cheapish compared to the other stuff, hopefully it’s just blades (Agri-Supply to the rescue, and they’re open today)

the spindles ain’t cheap, and of course, none are interchangeable with the others either ( no having a universal “spare”)

I’ve had better service from online sources than the local dealers, YMMV

anytime you break, it sucks. But, not a lot of difference you spend days or weeks going over everything on a rig, then you get to a trail, and you break.
and,..........................it sucks!

That sucks. It sounds like you either bent the spindle or toasted the bearing, or both.

Whats worse than that is when you get to make 2.375 passes, and THEN your belt snaps and goes flying to who knows where. Then the listed belt doesnt fit and you have to play guess the belt size at the store.

I'm all too familiar with the belt part number...I just don't wanna have to buy any because they're 110 bucks a piece.

It's a deck belt for a 52" Ferris. They're long as hell and apparently made of unicorn feathers woven together.

Too be sure you could find an A or B belt that would work at napa. Even if they have to order it from gates it still wouldn't be 110.

I've already been using Kevlar lined belts from vbeltsupply.com. The one I need is 30 bucks. They definitely don't last as long though.

I found a long lost logging chain in a natural area while I mowed down some damn stiltgrass w my craftsman 24 hp rider. The chain stopped the blades and the motor in an instant. The blades, mower belt and one spindle were toast and a tear in the deck @ the discharge. I thought the engine would be damaged from stopping in an instant a WOT, but it still runs fine 5 years later. I also put a tire in a hole, again in the natural area and dropped the blades onto a grapefruit sized quartz rock that shattered and shot shrapnel everywhere, 2 blades were destroyed. I don't mow the natural areas anymore. If I need to kill some stiltgrass/ivy, I cover it w a tarp for a few weeks.

I hate when I get a tear in my deck near the discharge hole :D

I'm also extremely grateful that we don't have any rock in the ground around here!

Why does everyone think New Bern is sand? It's black dirt and clay....

Thanks for the tip.
Just ordered a couple for my BobCat 52" zero-turn.
Hoping they'll last a while... the OE's are 7 years old, but cracking/burnt a bit and definitely let me know they were tired mowing yesterday!

Even if they lasted half as long as the expensive OE belt, I'm still money ahead and can actually afford to have a spare laying around if it does break one!
