Well Time Warner Cable just sucks!

I actually canceled my dish network today. Switched from dsl to twc for $54.99/month ordered sling tv $25/month (added kids channels). Yes i'm going to miss some of my shows, but saving $50/month is nice considering a new baby on the way.

Sounds like there are a lot of non-cable people here and just stream free stuff online...

For anyone that is considering this, is there a service (or a couple) that provide free TV similar to cable?

We don't have digital cable or anything fancy, but we do have a few select shows and channels we enjoy watching.

I do have the Roku stick but most everything I see costs $1.99 to watch...

Lots of choices ranging from Kodi and Showrss to Hulu. Some network stations let you watch for free a couple days later online also.

anybody tried the amazon fire stick jailbroken?

Wife watches stuff on Netflix and Hulu Plus. We have a Netflix account and some friends of ours have Hulu Plus, so we "share" them. I watch motocross online, and MotoGP season pass is about $25/year ($100/year split between me and the other 3 people that actually watch that stuff), and then we watch Walking Dead on amctv.com the day after it airs. With all that, I don't have a need or desire to watch more TV. Plus since its all streaming, you can pause/FF/RW and watch whenever you want. Hulu Plus sucks because of the commercials, but the rest of it is pretty much commercial free.

Sounds like y'all watch too much teevee.

Im in the same boat as Matt.
DSL is my only option for internet except I get 5down/.5 up

I really want to cut the cord but the only thing I watch on TV is sports...and I cant find a way to get all my college football without a dish so...I remain a slave.
Have you looked at Sling TV w/ the Sports package?
The base comes w/ ESPN and ESPN2 for $20, extra package only $5 more. No taxes.
And then you can tune in w/ the Sling app on a phone or tablet anywhere, or Roku etc.

It's not free, but cheap - This is why we went w/ Sling. The base package includes TNT, TBS, AMC and a few other cable networks that happened to be the ones we watch. You cab a la cart add on other packages too, our kids like the various disney channels so we added that for $5.

Time Warner was nice enough to quote constructing us a line. $6500 to go about 700ft. Its still tempting, but 15 years for it to make sense financially.

At least they gave a quote. Talked with Charter about a 1000' run. Two calls to customer service gave the same answer....they don't give quotes. Just sign up, let them install, and they'll bill for the job. "Ummm, I need a quote, so I can set a budget for construction." "You'll know how much it is after we install it and bill you."

No thanks!

I'm curious about this too. Keep hearing of some friends that have it, can get me one and such. Just not real sure about it. I really only care about The Walking Dead since I'm only up to date with what's on Netflix.

I actually avoid any conversation about the show as to not spoil it for me. I really don't want to wait till September for the next season to hit Netflix.

We did have to "sign up" first so that they could send a guy out and confirm that we were too far away. Kinda dumb, but whatever.

Find a friend or relative who has cable/satellite and you can watch it free the next day.

I bought the fire stick. I can get live tv (local channels too) new movies, sports and more. Free!!! Takes alittle to get used to it, but so far it's awesome.

Got bored and built a Raspberry Pi 3 this week with Kodi. Add Exodus, 1channel, and a couple other addons and you can stream a ton of stuff for free.

This afternoon I installed Kodi on my HTPC, thinking about picking up a Fire stick to do the conversion and would try it out free thsi way first.
Looks like a crap ton of content, although I'm having soem issues w/ most of the ones that are supposed to stream local broadcast channels.
Notably the resolution/stream quality is no near great.

When I get home later I'll look on my fire stick and see what all I have. I found a few that really works good.

You can wait for $10/month with Netflix, more $$ for beer and pizza!

Yeah, we were actually going through the Netflix original content listings last night and talking about how we'll never run out of stuff to watch.

I finally did it..... After 10 years of paying DTV 100+ a month I got tired of their shit. I bought a 35.00 antenna and said goodbye. The only thing I have missed so far is my DVR. I get about 35 channels, some out of Charlotte, some out of Columbia and a TVGuide app that reminds me when the shows I want to watch come on. We also have Netflix and Prime...... I'll never go back 20.00 a month vs. 100+......

I guess I should update my thread... TWC finally sent out the A team. Two young guys that asked me the symptoms and then started talking cable guy lingo. Shortly they were under and in the house replacing ends and wires and boxes but within about an hour they were done and my stuff all works great now. Hope it stays that way.
