Anyone got any advice, someone to ask or something to read about well water filtration. The house is 2 years old and I am still getting (what I'm calling) sediment. There is a pleated cartridge filter on the main line coming in the house. Some things I have read say those pleated filters are worthless and what i am seeing is not really sediment.

I think we have a sand filter contraption. I'll try and get a pic tonight. Works well for sediment and high iron.

Growing up, a little sand was just normal to us.

If you are still getting sediment 2 years later the pump is too deep.

We have what the previous owner installed.
We use this 20 micron filter
Hydronix SDC-25-2020 Sediment 20" Filter 20 Micron

Then we have a rain soft water softener,

Then we have this 1 micron filter:
Hydronix 20" Sediment Filter Cartridge - 1 Micron

One of these days I’ll redo it all because it’s installed wrong. And I’ve also been thinking about a reverse osmosis unit just for the kitchen sink because we don’t like to drink our water. It’s fine for cooking, but to just drink the water is not very good.

Well, the first question is what are you getting? Describe the sediment.

Are you sure the lines have all been flushed?

We have a 25 micron pleated in series with a 20 micron cartridge. Replace them about every six months, but they could probably go longer.

Our well get's a lot of silt (do believe it needs to be raised) and will flat out clog a 20 micron within 60 days.

When we dropped the new submersible down the shallow well at the project house, wasn't playing that crap...
went with a "cyclonic" w/ small micron screen "pre-filter" (open the cock at the bottom and flushes sediment into a bucket) feeding a 20 micron cartridge filter. We haven't used a lot of water there, but so far very little grit in the pre-filter and the cartridge is still white.

Don't have any filters on ours. Straight from deep in the ground to the faucet. Wonder if we should had one?

A lot depends on where you live.
House built in 1965.
We have a (bypassed) salt and mineral block "softener" that really didn't do much.
It need to be rebedded, but the performance just isn't worth it.
Then is goes through a micron screen pre-filter and then a whole house charcoal filter that MAY be 1 micron, but I think it's 5.
We have to clean the mud off of the pre-filter about every 2 months ...... the charcoal can be stretched to 4-5 depending on rain.
If it rains this week, the pre-filter is clogged next week.
I actually think its too high.
But we still occasionally get a bit of cloudiness ..... and there use to be coal mines in the general area .... nothing filters the sulphur.
A non-pressurized tank and off-gassing would be the ticket there.

@Normand thanks so much for joining this site yesterday just to answer my question from 2 years ago. I've been sitting here patiently waiting for someone with your emense knowledge. In two years I haven't even thought about the fact I should get my water tested by a lab.

It was a spammer

I figured if it was "well" water then that means it's fine

So, what did you end up doing?
