Some song lyrics made me think of this today. What’s something big you did in 2019?

2016, 2017, & 2018 were all pretty rough for me, I had a back surgery each of those years. So I didn’t get to do a lot. But I recovered well in 2019; I completed my first Spartan race in April and my first half marathon last weekend. I still haven’t made it back to the trails, but 2020 will change that.

Bought a bunch of stuff I didn't need, and sold a bunch of stuff I should have kept :D

Also cultivated a few new friendships and really built on some existing ones, both in real life and on NC4x4.

Finally got my full-size Jimmy on the road since I finally gathered all the parts to make it happen. Last time it was registered and on the road was in March of 2007. Really should have been 2 years ago, but I spun some cam bearings attempting to use factory roller lifters in a TBI block that had stepped lifter bores. Even have put almost 5k miles on since April. Hopefully I can make the nc4x4 wheeling trip in the spring.

I’m hoping to put off back surgery a little longer, will find out more with an updated MRI on the 27th.

Also lost 10 pounds and found them, and lost them again. I think I found a few more around Thanksgiving, and should be able to track down the remainder in the next week.

:DQuit a good paying job that was slowly claiming my soul and robbing me of time with my family. Took a new/old job where I have nowhere near the same workload or stress and am valued to a point of nobody asking where I’m going or when I’ll be back. Heck last week I went in almost 2 hrs late every day and left early all but one day.

On top of improving my personal wellbeing and that of my family, I finally drove my project Toyota named Blue around town. On track for another victory lap with functioning lights and a rebuild knuckles/brakes by years end.

contributed to the freshwater artificial coral society in some great ways as well. :D

Worked my life away. I did get a new (to me) lawnmower that will add about 2 hours per week back to my family life. Just so I can spend it on something else.

The biggest thing for us this year was selling our house. I can't even begin to express how freaking exciting that was after spending almost 2.5 years working on it! Definitely looking forward to having our weekends free so we can enjoy the boat, camper, & sami.

I drank the koolaid & started crossfit in July. Crushed my deadlift goal & hit 225lbs.>pretty sure that's how my eyes looked

Edit: Just paid off my student loan. Going into 2020 with only 1 debt

2019 was a pretty relaxed year for me compared to prior years. No new kids, no new jobs, no new businesses, no new houses/moves. Really enjoyed seeing my girls grow and develop. Currently making some moves for 2020 to be a year of ‘me time’...and the wife says she’s done practicing for kid 3.

I knocked two items off my bucket list, one was rolled over from 2018. I always wanted to build an engine that was more than a basic stock rebuild by myself, I've helped my uncle with a few but never on my own unless it was stock. I built and blueprinted the 445 FE for my Fairlane, got it fired up a year ago and started tuning it in and breaking it in in early 2019. I'm talking measuring bearing clearances with a bore gauge filing piston rings and all.

Second was to run a long haul on the Power Tour. Did that too with my brand new engine. 2200 ish miles round trip. Hopefully that won't be the last of those either, but not til it swings back near by again.

Next year I hope to get on the trails a little more, even if it's only ure. I only wheeled once in 2019 and twice in 2018.

Still got more on the bucket list to do, not sure how 2020 is looking for that though. I want to go to the pigeon forge rod run, Woodward dream cruise, SEMA, PRI, and KOH.

I'm also going to try to buckle down and loose some weight, but I'm going to start after Christmas, no sense starting that tonight, LOL

Bought another used truck/DD, the last one I bought was in 2002 and I still drive it weekly. I also went to the beach 4 times, been a long time since I've done that in one year.

Started to build an 80 series, got some good days and nights in on the trails, and proved to myself I can make it doing my own thing career wise. I havent really thought about the entire year untill just now, but I am very lucky to have had such a good year.

And @jeepinmatt hasn't burned my house down, so that's a plus.......

Took a job.......
Worked the most hours I've ever worked for someone else. Also worked the bulk of it third shift. Worked the closest to home in the last 8 or so years.
Did the least for myself and with my family that I ever have in a one year period.

I don't know what but something needs to change.

Started 2019 strong with wheelin trips once a month until April. Went out of work with a foot injury in June and spent 3 months on disability. Went back to work at the end of September but still having some issues with my calf muscle where the physical therapist tore a tendon. Got back into wheelin this fall and will be looking forward the trails in 2020. Dropped around 35 lbs in 2019 also.

Had a kid and also became an uncle (theyre 2 months apart), started working out, completed ~430 hrs of of state fire cert training (finished all but 4 of my classes for FF I/II), got my truck back on the road after 2 years, applied to and am currently working through the hiring process for 5 FDs, and introduced a good friend to the addiction we call "hunting". Its been a damn good year.

2019 was a liberating year for me.

Started the year by building a rig

Finally passed the electrical contractors licensing exam

Went off into self employment in April

Got married in June

And still working for myself coming into 2020. Couldn’t be happier!

Botched an engine/transmission installing my galaxie because I was too stubborn to do it the way I knew would work best, all because I was trying to get it done fast and not doing it right.

Blew up the turbo on my dd/tow rig

Had to leave family vacation to return to an unfinished work project to keep someone else from having to finish my mess

Had the rear dead axle in my minivan split almost in half, was holding on by a few inches. The night I drove it home after fixing it, hit a second deer with it and busted out the grill, header panel, and radiator.

Got the inspiration from putting a radiator in my van to build a set of ramps in my yard to make under vehicle repairs much easier

Finally got my wife to agree we needed to throw some shit away (88 model single wide has NO storage space). Was able to finally get my kids room cleaned out and set up for them (NO storage and LOTS of procrastination)

Got backed into by one car while kneeling on a jeep, which has resulted in a workless and payless holiday season to round the year out thanks to a torn quadricep, which will be rolling over through June at least, and then on to the battle for payment from insurance.....

2019 has mostly brought the suck

Spent a ton of time in the woods with my wife and friends! Rode mountain bikes in 10 different states. Killed good archery bucks in PA and NC. Killed good turkeys in PA and NC. Shot 3 coyotes. Took a road trip all over Michigan and the upper Penninsula. Saw a concert in a freakin cave! Rode on an air boat for the first time. Was in one of my best friends weddings. Visited a lot of bars in Austin, TX. Gonna closeout the year with a Hockey game in Pittsburgh, PA.

Can’t complain, other than the 10 extra pounds I’m carrying right now.

I took control of my own life and set some hardcore boundaries with people who in the past tried to manipulate them. That went over like a fart in Sunday School, but I don't care, I'm in a great place.
I got back on my mountain bike and rode over 925 miles this year.
I competed in and finished the Swank 65 race (it's a nasty Pisgah trail MTB race)
Wheeled a lot this year and made some new friends
I have continued to work on my physical and mental health and made both a priority this year. I'm as fit as I have ever been.
Our business has continued to grow and is now under complete control of my wife and I. We call the shots and take a ton of pride in it.
We made some huge business decisions and fought for our company's survival. Everything worked out great and the future looks bright.

2019 was a great year for us. Lots of personal growth and learning opportunities.

All in all a great year for me. I started the year sick as a dog which lead to me having a portion of my colon removed in late February after I got over the initial sickness. Not living on anti-biotics this year has been great. I put the surgery off for way too long. I haven’t been sick all year and I was averaging about 8 weeks between bouts of sickness. My company has a great short term leave plan that allowed me to concentrate on being healthy instead of hurrying back to work.

In late April I took the Professional Engineering exam and knocked that off my bucket list. I finally talked my wife into going to Las Vegas this summer and seeing the desert for the first time. I can’t say enough about seeing the awesome sites around Vegas.
