^^^^I thought that was very technical.

Actually, my first post was a joke. I do hate denting my jeep though and wish I had about 600 HP

I am about as technical as it gets without getting technical. Lol. Most of the time I just stab it and steer. Brad does finesse his sometimes though. He does respect other peoples stuff because when he drives my buggy he treats it l like it is made of glass.

Well, in the late 80's and 90's I was first choice. "Scott can break it, whatever it is" was what my buddies said. Neighbor would bring track hoes home and dig us holes and we had trails thru the swamp out here (now covered by a lake). That's why I liked my stuff tall for our swamp (plus living in Florida for a few years).

Presently, full time job, part time side business, 2 daughters into band/dance and other things, house note and stuff puts me in the 2nd for awhile. I'll be back to top choice later on in life, I'm gathering parts now for a build. Bigger and way meaner than my mud/street jeep. Goal is to use all scrap stuff, low buck/trade stuff kind'a build.

I'm definitely more of a technical wheeler. I like taking it somewhat slower through trails and enjoying the obstacles. Not scared to get in the hard places tho or get dirty in the mud.

By the way, J & T in Marion was the place for Jeep/1 ton truck axles and trannies/cases back in the 80's, there was a mudbog down the road from it also. Me and my buddy Rich spent a lot of money at J & T.

There's no option for passenger/spotter but I'm pretty much up for anything. ;)

I will, however, yell and cuss at you if you don't do what I tell you and end up with dents/breakage as a result.

I go wheeling every time the rig aint broke and i can afford the diesel to pull it.
Hardcore? Dunno. Badass is my explanation of what we all do.
"Go big or go home" has nothing to do with your rig.
Its all in your heart!
Just my opinion.

Very well said paul, There is a whole lot to wheeling and no matter what you like or what you do it in, do youre best.

I like my rig to be capable enough to get to the hard stuff. Then I get out and spot my buddies thru and pull cable/wrench if needed. I dont have the funds to make my rig hardcore. It is locked f/r on 31s. I guess that still makes me more hardcore than 90% of the pretty trucks that are at the mall.

When I'm done with mine, I'll be the "not going to scratch my paint" guy for awhile.

I will run some trails, beaches, and mud, but if I get to a big obstacle and the only way to get over it is guaranteed to dent/ding/scratch the body, screw it...I'm going around. Not what I built if for. If I wanted to build something to scrape over every rock on the trail and have the body look like knots on a dog's dick, I'd have left it in primer or built a buggy.

I used to be a "if it's 4 wheel drive, you should wheel it" kinda guy, but now I'm more of a "build it for what you want and do that with it, who am I to judge" guy. As long as it gets driven some. Don't like trailer queens.

I don't care much for mud, but it really depends on where I am when it's muddy. Truth be told, I have wheeled everywhere around when it was bone dry, damp and soppy muddy. It really adds to the degree of difficulty when it's wet. While I don't intentionally go out and tear shit up, it happens. I repair it or replace it. Each time, I try and make it better.
While UNLIKE Brad, I do try to crawl stuff first, I have no issue with using the right pedal.
I for the first time in my life have a decent looking Jeep. Looks good, and wheels good. But, the last trip into Lions Den, kinda changed that a bit, at least it was in the same location as the battle scars I got from Get Skinny at The Farm.

We all love what we do, some of us are a little more fanatical about it, but I think run what ya brung, and above all else, have fun!

i think the biggest deciding factor is whether you trailer your rig or drive it to where your wheeling. when you trailer a rig you are much more likely to beat the snot out of it because you know you can get it home.

as for my wheeling style, i'll let you know when i can get some time to go.

i typically take it pretty easy. I pop in my favorite Celine Dion tape (because CDs skip) and just keep it in first... maybe second. I wear my earplugs just in case someone gets rowdy (rude) and usually round it up with a stop at the local carwash to keep things looking good for pictures. it's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand.

I started getting a lot more thoughtful about safety equipment after a bad roll with a stock roll bar. (It should have be deadly). I dont mind taking chances in a properly built rig. Going to the desert has taught me that prerunning and knowing whats on the other side of the jump is a good thing. (Unless the locals booby trap it since you preran). I like momentum and acceleration, so I didnt really care for most of the rockcrawling craze. I went drag racing again untill ECORS came together. Now the Drag car is sold and Mars fab is putting together a nice little suspension under my Scout. Looking forward to it!

To me, hardcore= lacking sense (rock bouncing and related idiocy). I'm not in for any of that, though I love to watch it! Guess it all depends on viewpoints. I'm pretty level headed, as parts aren't cheap and the budget is limited and I'd rather be wheeling it than fixing it.

Web wheeler and jackstand wheeler categories definitely need to be added!!!

I'll admit it. I'm a convenience wheeler. When it's hot out there, fuck even being outside. I wheel mine pretty hard when I do wheel it but I probably won't even start it up until it gets cooler outside. Got a newbie buddy that keeps bugging me about going so we may end up out there one of these weekends but he's going to have to be pretty persistent to get me out there.
