Going Saturday through Wednesday and I don't know much about the place... I know its near Boone and we will be floating a river and doing a lot of drinking, fishing, and grilling out.

Going with a girl and her family so going to try and spend as much time away from the house as possible.

Anyone have any ideas of cool stuff to do in the area or is it one of those little mountain towns with nothing to do like I fear?

I believe you've answered your own question. I'll let you figure out the rest... if you catch my drift.

The todd rail road grade road is very scenic, if you like to ride bycicles it is a nice ride, there are a few spots down the road a way from where the store is to go for a swim, very nice this time of year.

I grew up in Todd and hitting the river in a kayak is your best bet for fun. You are about 20 minutes from Boone or West Jefferson so there is things to do there as well

The trout are still biting good in the new river along railroad grade. Just don't go near Todd Island if you want to catch them, that place stays fished out.
Other than fishing, floating and drinking there is not much in Todd to do.
But like Back2hilux said you're only 20 min from boone.

the river should be up with the rain they've had lately. Todd is between Boone and Jefferson, both have some good resturaunts. Mt Jefferson has some hiking but you can drive to the top. (hiking for fat people). And then theres the "New River Zoo" if its still open.......

Haha. We'll see. Being trapped with her for 5 days might be enough to drive me insane, also I've also never met her parents and I want to have plenty of options to keep me busy if they end up being psychotic. I was actually planning not to bring fishing gear just so I couldn't get stuck with her Dad and Brother for the day. Ill have to rethink that.

Just figured if there was something really cool I would definitely go. (My first thought was Callahantee, then I pouted because I remembered its closed)

The General store sounds like an awesome idea! I do like the one in Boone. The river sounds pretty great too, I just wonder how many times I can float the river before going insane.

20 minutes from Boone is good to know, Daniel Boone in for breakfast is a must.

You're not too far from Rocky Knob MTB park if you're into that kind of thing. And theres always Richland Road if you want to go for a fairly easy ride in the jeep.

Not much into mountain biking, don't mind scenic rides but I am way too out of shape for the hard stuff.

Richland road isn't worth towing the Cherokee and I can't imagine me meghan and her dog being in my wrangler for a 2 hour drive.
Probably just take the car, might borrow some yak's and see about that though.

Hell the Parkway isn't far.

Go to King street in Boone and laugh at the hippies who laugh at the tourists.

Its more of a drive to get to, but Linville Gorge is awesome too.

HAHAHA we lived i Jefferson for 4 years. The first time the wife and I canoed down the New it took us almost all day. I had to drag that thing (with her in it) more than I got to paddle it. Did the same trip after it rained and it only took about an hour and a half. We had planned on being gone all day....:/

this is the craw we always use this time of year its a rebel brand its called a wee-craw in ditch brown, some of the darker colors depending on water color

go to Hebron falls in Boone or price park in Boone ... another 20 min. to Grandfather mountain. Ride the parkway to the Viaduct. Go eat at Macadoos in Boone. The Richlands are not that far away.

If you want some fun and dont mind driving a bit, there are any number of waterfalls to go see/visit/jump off of. It would probably take you 45 min to an hour from Todd, but Compression Falls is awesome with jumps ranging from 10ft to poo your pants thats high.

Hmm. Sounds like with the lack of rain lately the river might be a major downer.

Hebron rock colony is definitely cool.
Prepare for presence of hippies.

Ill bring some axe body spray for close quarters and a few bars of soap to throw at them for mid range defense.

My wife and I hiked up there one a couple of times... Always had some hippies thinking they was in Colorado LOL. Nice Hike though, short but nice...

You best bet is some kind of petroleum based product. if it dosn't make them melt when contacting the skin, you can easily slip away while they are frantically mourning the environmental damage.
