Picked up two xj's saturday at a auction..one running and one as a pig in the poke..No key not running and grime all over the outside from setting..one of the workers there said it ran but had no key (when i was loading so its not like he was trying to get me to buy)
Details...
94 4.0 aw4 4door 2wd...Last inspected in 05...Grime all over the outside.( has proablly set for 3-5 yrs). 156k
After a quick car wash she shined up great..With a wax it will look nice. Checked all the vital parts on the motor and etc and everything looks like it should and no sign of a past failure or reason for its sitting.

Just for the sake of being bored im gona make a poll and see what most think and let all know what happens..
Going to get a key cut tomorrow..Put 5 gallons of 93 in it and turn it over haha..What you think will happen? Vote away.

sorry to be the negative one, but I am wondering why it was parked. Could be tranny issues, but I am betting a sensor went bad, or worse...bad head gasket caused overheating and that lead to a cracked head.

I hope it does crank right up, but I voted it wont. Good luck!

If it's non vacu disconnect hp just part it out,,,DIBS on the front axle. Those this are pretty bullet proof. I'm from the school of numbers you have a 50/50 chance either it runs or it don't.

if moisture hasn't taken over the fuel system and all the switches work I say fire her up!

(Mental note... never buy an XJ from Corey, you never know what it's been through...)

Poll needs a vote for "may crank but run very rough"

He said it is 2wd, I bet he'd just give you that front axle!

What are you planning on doing to it in preperation of the first crank. I'd drain the gastank and pump the dead gas out of the line.......then put some 93 in it and good battery and let her eat!

I say tranny is shot, motor will probably run but run rough.

I say itll run, and probably run on the gas thats in there. I wrecked my truck in 03 and parked it, in 07 I replaced the bent body parts and fired it right up with no issues and drove it to the gas station.

If you think the gas has went bad just take the gas cap off and smell if it smells like terpintine it is bad and will gum your whole fuel system up.

I would drain it if that is the case if it smells like regular old gas I'd through a battery in it and fire it up.

The 4.0 is apretty resilient motor. I bet it fires no problem with fresh gas. I fired up my 88 XJ after sitting for more than 7 yrs. fresh gas and fired right away.

Went to the dealership and they told me they couldnt cut a key for that old of a jeep???haha well went to the local locksmith and ill pick up a key tomorrow...I will update and let yall know..

go to auto zone and buy a new switch, pull the steering wheel, and change the switch out. Less that $10

+1 for hot-wiring

It'll crank up. I bought a 85 cherokee last week that had been sitting since 2004 and with a new battery, fresh gas and a quick overall look it cranked right up...
