What's It???... weed, flower, left by aliens?

Can anyone identify this plant? We have a couple of these growing down in a shady, wooded area behind the house. Neighbors can't help with identity either. Anyone?

We have watched these bloom for several years, but never knew what they were.
I think they may have got frosted this year or else we totally missed their blooms.
