what's up with rigs on fire in URE! !!!!

looks like his doubler overheated...

Saw the burnt Land Rover along side Hwy 70 in Durham on way to work at an automotive paint store. Seemed ironic until now. Guess it belonged to someone on here???

This thread makes me want to go back to a manual tranny and line lock... Had no idea ATF was so flammable??? And there is so much chance of a leak while wheeling it seems to be proving to be NOT the way to go anymore???
Oh yeah, hot ATF on hot exhaust.esp headers is a bomb.Theres a video somewhere of me at The Gulches and I had a lil fire due to a leak.

Another new one... So we need a temp gage on our dual t-cases??? Seems totally legit with all the gearing involved I guess...

Anybody run a dual case temp. gage?

And I googled "flammable automotive fluids" and there was a test where everything liquid involved under a hood, even 50/50 antifreeze ignited on a 1000 degree hot pipe (expected header temp. on a stalled trail rig). They couldn't test (and post answers) on windshield wiper fluid due to environmental regs on the contents but assured you if it was tested, the same results would most likely occur.

Amazing learning session for me today... And opened up a whole new look at vehicle safety.

I remember at one of the early ECORS races @ DPG, maybe 2010? somebody in the upper class - maybe it was Stump - had a slight leak that would occur only show up when off-camber at this one obstacle, it would drip down the belly pan, hit the exhaust and flame up.... did it every time he came by.
the solution was to post a guy right there w/ a fire extinguisher to tap it out on each pass... :D

That was the one and only sam wingett

Nah, Winget was at Durhamtown. He caught on fire a half dozen times during that race.

It was Samu at DPG, I think JT may have been manning the extinguisher. I donated an extinguisher to the cause.

I dont think Sam ever went to Durhamtown, think he was out by then.

remember to test your fire suppression sytem as well.

wasnt there an early ecors race where a system failed?

@ the first race @ the Stables, there was a guy that had an extinguisher go off in his rig, that was pretty entertaining.
...almost as much as the dude who forgot to disable the airbags lol

I was the one catching fire at dpg. Woodlee threw his drank and hit my codriver in the helmet to get our attention.
You caught fire in year 2. Year one the event titled The Culmination Sam caught fire like 4 laps In a row and got extinguished every lap. I've got video somewhere.

Are you thinking Harlan where Rusty had the fire in Derek West rig?

On a related note....check your extinguishers every once in a while. I looked at my fire ext's in the shop today...I look at the gauges every once in a blue moon. One was completely flat, gauge pegged on empty. Hasn't been used, guess it's just been slowly leaking down for the last year or so since I last bothered to look.
